Want a 40" class mono... need input.

Howdy folks, in the past I have sought input on building a larger cat hull. I have come to the realization that I need a larger mono hull to contend with the wind and waves on the natural lakes I'm forced to run on in Northern Michigan.

Internet searches have led me to the following 40" class mono hulls in no particular order.

    Aeromarine Challenger 43

    TFL Ariane (its under 40")

    Delta Force 45

At this point, everything is open to suggestion. I don't have any of the hulls or any equipment. My only real goal is something that will run in the 50's, be stable and handle a 3" to 6" chop with ease. I would like to run a 6s2p setup if possible for a decent runtime.

My current two boats are running SK180 v2 ESC's, and Leopard motors. I know how they function, but would certainly be open to other ESC's and motor combinations.

Feel free to post your insight as I have zero knowledge with larger mono hulls.

Here is a boat I built recently that fits the size you are looking for.

I have a Carbon Fiber Ariane and it's one of my favorite boats. I've got it setup to run Q mono 6s 2p, TP 4070 1770kv, Swordfish 240 Pro Plus II ESC the boat flys and handles chop real well. The Delta Force would be a good choice too, the DF45 is only 38.5" long or are you talking about the Delta Force Sniper 45 it's 45" and they make the Delta Force 41 that is 41" long. The Delta Force Pirate is a good boat too at 35".

The DF45 is the one that Steve sells here on OSE. It's 38.5" long but looks like it has a shallow V compared with the Aeromarine hull.

What kind of speeds and runtime are you getting on the Ariane on 6s2p?

WFO it runs about 65 and I'd probably get 70 or so if I tuned it more. And about 8 to 10 min. run time. I've never run it down to LVC but judging from what's out of the packs after a 6 or 7 lap run it should run about that.

Excellent info! That would certainly meet my goal of running in the 50's. I was worried that I would need to run higher than 6s to meet my speed requirements.

Ok guys, I'm pretty sure I have the hull choice narrowed down to a Delta Force 41 and I have come up with the following two motor/ esc options.

More expensive option #1: Neu 1527 motor rated at 1500 kv. Swordfish 240 esc

Less expensive option #2: TP 4060 motor or Leopard 4092 with either at Swordfish Pro 220 6s or Pro 200 8s esc.

Regardless of motor or esc, this will be a dedicated 6s2p setup so please help me choose.

I think any of them will easily put a DF41 in 50's.

I'd go just a little different, TP 4070 1770kv and Swordfish 240, that's a killer 6s setup I have it in my Ariane and I'm putting a simular setup in a ML Boatworks GP400 Hydro I've got coming I'm using the TP 4070 1770kv but with a MGM Compro 280amp ESC. That DF 41 is a good choice for a hull, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it...

MHZ makes nice stuff, but they are outside of my budget for this build.

The DF45 MkII (38.5") is a very nice boat, we have a couple of them racing in our club on 6S, and mine has just arrived The DF41 also goes very well on 6S (and 8S from what I hear!). Delta force also have the DF67 MkII which is the newer style, but 42" long.

I would recommend going less than 1500 kV with any of them. The Neu 1527/1Y (1250 kV) is a proven set up in these boats. I have also seen the 1530/1.5D (1355 kV) go very well. I'll probably go a bit cheaper and drop a TP 4070 6D (1360 kV) in mine.

                      Good luck

                        Scott,
You're right about the lower kv, my setup is a pretty hot setup and deffinetly won't work on 8s it's also real touchy on prop size. The lower kv would be better for someones first build and would be a more forgiving setup..

I think the TP 4070 (3Y) version at 1440 kv would be about perfect.

There ya go! IMO for the $ TP is a great motor.
