Hello everybody :)
I thought I would throw this out there because I know a lot of us run gel batteries in our vehicles, boats, atv's and as power supplies in our field packs. If you've ever had a gel battery die you know it sucks because we've been led to believe that you cannot recover them with a standard battery charger, and you have to fork out big bucks to buy a gel battery recovery charger do the job.
Well, this is not the case and anyone that says otherwise is full of bantha foo doo. Yes, it's true that you cannot hook a standard automotive battery charger to a gel battery and recover it without frying it. However, this is not exactly true either. All you need is a good second battery and a set of jumper cables to charge them in parallel. Just takes a good 12 volt car battery and hook it up in parallel with the dead battery via the jumper cables, positive to positive and negative to negative. Then hook a trickle charger up to the good battery and let it run. Some people also thook the trickle charger to the positive of one battery and the negative of the other and let it run. Either way this will recover the Optima battery if its recoverable.
in other words you can pick up dead Optima batteries from the junk yards, recover them, sell them and make a decent profit......
