Understanding lipo C rating

As I understand it the C is basically a percentage of the Mah rating for max amp draw

a 10C 1000mah would have a max continious amp discharge of 10 amps

a 12C 5000mah would have a max rating of 60 amps.

Am I close or off base here?

Exactly....but usually packs have a max continuous and a max burst.

Find out exactly what the pack says and follow that. If it's not a high quality pack, the C rating is probably incorrect anyway.
