    How the Brass Insert in AeroMarine collet couplers goes???

    Please tell me if the brass insert goes with the cone part facing the motor shaft "1" or facing the flex cable "2"

              It's the only way. Look inside and you will see how the cone of the brass insert fits into the body of the collet.

                Oh yes is an opposed design of the Octura ones that Im used to.

                  Also, avoid the urge to over tighten. If you do, it's VERY difficult to get apart. If I over tighten, I have to tap the collet with the wrench, turn, pull and repeat until it lets loose.

                      Grease the threads LIGHTLY only on the coupler body .

                        Joel has the answer here... with the 3 - piece design (brass insert) you CAN NOT over tighten them or they start sticking. Better yet, if you can get a replacement stainless steel insert they are a little more forgiving, but you still need to be careful not to over tighten.

                          I've had 2 of these couplers...the biggest PITA ever...I'll avoid them at all cost.

                            Thanks, like the other guy said, mine came assembled as pic 2 as well. Sucks, because I've been using it that way....nice to know though. I'll probably pick up an Mbp collet and call it a day..lol
