Need a big motor for a 41" Fantasm build. 90mph is my goal. I've been looking at tp, sss, and proteus...I didn't see anything else. My goal is 90mph with a single. I know you guys can help me find something.... :) thex

how about a 1530 neu motor? Or maybe a lehner 2260-2280? Keith or Joel would be the one to ask as he has experience with the fantasm I can only speak for the neu 1530.
The neu 1530 can come in 1y 1100kv I think 10-12s should get you big numbers. I have run twin neu 1530, speeds were impressive. I wouldn't mess with a big can motor the neu 1530 can put a hurtin' on cheaper big can motors, if you have your sights set on these numbers I rec. going neu at minimum and lehner would be great if you can spend a bit more.
To give you an idea my friend runs 3040s, one set of motors for 2 years and never an issue running just shy of 100 all day. I on the other hand had 1 pair leopard 5692, 3 pair of tp5850, and neu 1530. Never was happy even when the numbers were mid 90s a lehner equipped boat just spins and spools up like nothing else, this becomes extremely apparent when running the two boats side by side.
A Neu or lehner with a single set to hit 90 will pull 300 amps spike and make over 9,000 watts so a sf300 or 240 is a must, or better but you'll be fine both of these escs can take a serious amount of abuse. -
Swordfish 300 is my plan. I might would buy a lehner but no idea what one I need. I'm not in a hurry for this build. So I can spend a decent amount on it if I need to. I want a really really nice fantasm32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

hopefully keith chimes in if lehner is an option for you, i do know the 1530 with an HV setup will push that boat well.Comment

After a bit of reading I found a guy who had a single leopard 4092 and was getting 70ish mph. That's about a 4300 watt motor. Decent motor but not a tp....so I'm thinking what if I do a tp 4070? It's 7500 watts (a most double the power) and I could run 8s on it so it'll be lighter than a 10s or 12s setup. It'll also be cheaper on batteries because I won't have to buy more lol. Or I could do the monster 5850 1000kv tp that's 12000 watts? If I get 80 mph out of it I think I'll be ok with it. Thoughts? I have things that came up and right now I can't afford a neu or lehner. I don't like things sitting on my shelf so I want to get started on this thing but don't know which way to go.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

the 5850 made more than 12,000 watts more like 14,500.
Your money, but given I have tried every 5850 wind an leopard 56-series like I was saying above, thats not a motor for a fantasm for a lot of reasons. Its fun to be different but this is sound advice. A large can motor makes a big boat fast because well, it can spin a very large prop high rpm is not this motors forte (i've done it with mixed results).
that 4070 looks like a great deal thats what I would do!Comment

the 5850 is rated for a max of 50k rpm and the 4070 is rated for a max of 45k rpm....so one would seem to think the 5850 would hold up better, no? Im not trying to contradict your advice or opinon by any means...I just want to make the right choice the first time. Once i decide on a motor, the mount will be picked for that motor and if it dont work out im gonna have to go through a bunch of shiznit to change motors and mounts.......
what other reasons is this not a motor for the fantasm? I do like to be different for sure but i dont want to choose a totally wrong combo....32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

the 50K is an old number, the 5850 was given these ratings a year or two ago. TP designed a 5850 more suitable for us boaters.
^^Same motor better can though for a cooling jacket you know. The 4070 is rated at 45K, which is lower but was rated around the same time the 5670 was (believe end of may 2014). TP is a newer company and in my opinion a very good one to deal with. The 4070 rating is just more appropriate than it would have been a year ago, so the 45K doesn't mean its the inferior motor, I hope its one of the best ones they've made.
The 5850 is working very hard at high rpm to stay together, a smaller can not as much. So basically you'd be taking no advantage of the motors strengths (torque), and just spinning it to a place where the incident of failure is surely higher. Have you given thought to a twin setup for the fantasm? two leopards, two sf220s, 90-100 mph.Comment

My only uncertainty is how well a motor that long will hold together. They do have 8mm shafts throughout mind you
The Fantasm is not a very difficult boat to push, I suspect that a single Neu 1530 or Lehner 2280 motor would be plenty for 90 mph with the right prop. The latter holds the all-out FE SAW record.

38" intruder MKll motor TP 4060 watts 6200 KV 1440. 4y 5mm shaft ESC 400amp FDM prop x448 top speed mid 80's on 8s with room to grow. I will prop up to either a x648 or a Prather S240 to get to 90 mph. That's is my current saw boat. When I want to just mess around a drop to 6s.Comment

I would have went with the TP 4070 but it wouldn't fit under the hatch. And I had trouble with the colet being to big. The with the 8mm shaft the motor will have to be laid down pretty flat to make the transition from the motor to the shaft. So the biggest I could fit was a TP 4060. I think you will have room with the hull you have chosen to put that 7500watt monster in. Be aware that when you turn it loose it will be an animal. I hope you have better luck than me to make it stick in the water. Be sure to take it slow at first maybe 6s then 8s. That might help you get it to stay in the water instead of being a airplane.Comment
