Need an 8S-10S ESC that is in the $100-$250 range.... Any Suggestions?

    Fellas,

I'm looking to run one of my boats on 8S and realized I didn't have an 8S handling ESC. I am not as familiar with the 8S and up ESC's for I have always ran 4S - 6S boat set ups. I know the Castle Ice esc's ( 200 and 240 Versions ) have experience many fatal fails and have since been discontinued due to problems they were having which everntually was not worth their return on investement per Castle. When speaking to representative at Castle they advised me for every 1 they made , they were getting 1 back ( mostly the 200 Version) so I am not interested in those.

Any insight or direction you can lend would be awesome. Thanks

The Castle Ice controllers are good. You just have to keep them dry and adding a Cap Bank helps in high load applications.

I've recently been using a Swordfish 240HV in a 8S rigger and so far it has been working well. Easiest way to program the Swordfish is to get the programming box. I don't like the card (not very user friendly) and some people have been having problems with the computer software.

What part of VA are you located?

A bit over $250, but a good option IMO.

Depending on the load I have a friend I buy Seaking 130HV's for since he's old as dirt and computers aren't good to him. He runs 6S and 8S setups in 36"-40" mono's and cats on 2P battery configuration. They range in price from $130 up to $180 + shipping.

I have been using the XL2 esc's with good results, pulling nearly 4000 watts with no problems, come in about 110 degrees f

After what I just experienced with Hobby King, Run away and be afraid!! Quality is going way down and prices going up.
These esc's are notoriously known to have many issues, just read the reviews and fact check on line.

What do you all think about the SeaKing 130HV ESC on 8s? You think it would hold up well?

It depends on how you plan on running it. My friend runs it in bigger boats but, he doesn't overprop things and he just does 6 or 7 laps on the 1/6th mile oval and brings it in. I don't want to suggest it for you because I haven't done destruction testing on it myself. It's an Opto ESC for 5-12S and it has an Anti-spark built into the connectors.

When they come back in stock, I might try this. I've got the conformal coating and everything else to make it marine. I also have a 50% off coupon :) .
