    Another stupid question

I saw a you tube video on a 5S Lucas Oil Cat. From what I can see, it has a typical two battery layout like my Spartans and UL-1. My Spartans, for example, use a pair of 3S, connected in series, I assume, which gives me a 6S layout.

I was always under the impression that you needed two batteries of the same spec in these situations, but You're not going to get a 5S configuration that way.

So how did this boat end up 5S?

(I'm know, I'm stupid, but I plead newbie ignorance!)

He either ran 2 5s packs in paralell or a 2s + 3s pack of same brand, mah, c rating in series.

Thanks. Do you think it would be possible or advisable to run the boat on 6S?

Think of it this way. If your running 5s in series, you have 5 individual batteries (yes they are assembled, but each cell is its own cell). So it does not matter if you run a 4s pack and a 1s pack in series, you still get 5s. As long as each cell is the same rating. 1s + 1s + 1s + 1s + 1s would equal 5s. Another example is a device that take 6 aa batteries. That would be six cell (of a different type I know). Every time you add another cell in series it adds to the voltage. Every time you add in parallel it adds capacity, in parallel they have to be the exact same batteries. Example, to run 5s in parallel you'd have two 5s packs of the same ratings and run the two positives together and then the negatives together. That doesn't add the voltage up the way but adds capacity and amps. If you ran two 5s packs in series, it would add the voltage together. Did I confuse you?

6s on the stock Lucas oil electronics will fry it. Honestly I have this same boat with 4074 2200kv on 4s and it runs in the 50's with m545 prop.
