Building a Hull with Revolt Hardware and Electronics

I have all the hardware and electronics from a Revolt 30 whose hull I busted up. In addition I also have a motor from a Miss Geico 29 and an ESC from an Impulse 31/Black Jack 29. I thought it would be fun, economical, and educational to use all this equipment for my first build, but I have a few questions:

I'd like to build up a slightly larger hull. Is the Revolt hardware sufficiently large to handle something like A Delta Force 33 or DF Cyber Storm 33? (Incidentally, how do these hulls differ in terms of performance or the type of water they are designed for?) Can the hardware handle something as large as an Insane 34 or DF 35?

My plan would be to run the stock Revolt ESC and motor on 4S with an X642 or M545 prop or to run the 1500-Kv Miss Geico motor and ProBoat ESC on 5S or 6S. What prop should I use for the 1500 motor on 5S? How about 6S?

Do you have any other suggestions for this build?

    Hi skeeler

The revolt hardware is not really strong enough to handle more boat than what it was designed for. Sorry but I've been where you are and learned this first hand...
Besides all that you will really be much better off with a stinger IMO. The turn fins and trim tabs would be ok to use but the rudder and strut are really weak!

      Keith, thanks for your input.

So, assuming I get myself a new strut/stinger and rudder, are there any problems with using the fins, tabs, motor, and ESC? What hull would be recommended for this project? I'm inclined to limit myself to 4S (and the Revolt motor), since I have 4S batts and no 2S or 3S ones of the appropriate capacity. In that case, I'm leaning towards the DF 33, DF Cyber Storm, or Pursuit 32.

The DF 33 is probably the most common best choice, but keep in mind all the hulls out there are heavier than the revolt so a small sacrifice in speed is almost unavoidable using the revolt motor. The gains are a better riding boat not so easily upset when on the edge...

The DF33 is quite light and it airs out beautifully with an 1800KV AQ motor, SF120 or T120, a 4S pack of 30-40C 5800's in there on an M445. I'd save the hardware maybe for a smaller boat like a DF29 or DF26 and build a fresh boat from scratch, you'll take great pride when it's done. I love the way my DF33 runs with that motor esc combo, solid, stable and very power efficient. Sometimes it not how heavy the hull is but, it's aerodynamics play a big role as well.

I don't use a stinger on my DF33, just a round bottom Speedmaster strut and rudder, tabs. Turn fins are CF ones that Steve sells st OSE. Your tabs & fins could be used but, I'd go all new. If I have pics around I'll post some.

The cool thing about my DF33 is I can swap out the motor & mount for my NEU 1521 1.5D and run it in P-mono with a 50mm prop on 2P of the same packs above.

Ray, thanks for the information and photos. That's very useful. It sounds like you've done basically what I'm considering. I'll make note of what you said and follow your example when I start my build. Sadly, the build will have to wait until I complete my interstate move in August.

By the way, your boat looks well executed.

Thank you. It doesn't look so perfect up close trust me. I've owned that hull for at least 5 years or more and I've beat the daylights out of it.

I laid it out like Steve Ressor did his P-mono years ago with motor forward batteries back. It's kind of unconventional compared to many people that put the motor at the rear. Steve's boat got sold to Randall Thomas and when Randall runs it it's a very solid runner. Originally Steve used the DF33 hull until he drove it into a bank of dirt & rocks then he used a DF Cyberstorm. Either hull works well, the Cyberstorm has a deeper vee for higher power applications that keeps it planted in the water a little better.

Ray, thanks for your comments on the differences between the two DF hulls. Is either one easier to build or work on?

Which 50-mm prop do you run on 4S and 11600-mAh?

It was an aluminum version of an Octura X450 that I de-tongued fairly quickly. I bought it from HOR and he doesn't sell it anymore. It's the same 1.4 pitch X450 prop with major amount of tongue removed. I'll try to upload pics later, GTG have things to do!!

They are very similar. They DF33 is wider but, the Cyberstorm is a deeper Vee that handles rougher water better. I'd rather un a Cyberstorm for P-Mono than the DF33 but, I have to make do with what I have.
