    some gps prop testing.....

Only boat I own right now that I can get a gps to work in is my impulse 31 (until I get my fiberglass hatches for my rivercats) so I decided to see how my props stack up against a sharpened and balanced prop from a source that does (don't want to mention names because I don't want to ruffle feathers!) So here's the details:

    Impulse 31
Shockwave 26 1500kv stock motor (burned stock 1800 kv impulse motor up)

1)Prop one x642 that was s/b by me 44.0 mph

    2)Prop two x642 that was s/b professionally 44.8 mph

3)Prop three M645 that was s/b by me 45.7 mph (I've lays felt this prop had killer midrange but not alot of topend....I was right. It needs reworking. It's way to thick.

    4) prop four stock 40mm stainless proboat 39.8mph

    5) prop five x438 (used on my mini rivercat) 38.2mph

    mini rivercat

    on 6s, 1800 kv 1512 castle

    1) Prop 1 stock proboat miss geico prop 53.1mph

    2) Prop 2 x642 lost gps but looked a good bit faster.

    32" rivercat 1800kv 1518 castle on 6s

    Baseline x642

    x642 67.9mph
    m445 68.7mph
    M545 70.0mph
    M645 80.6mph (was on 7s)
    Prather 230 73.1mph (battery upgrade 74.6mph) then it went 80.4mph on 7s

I plan on testing a few more. Stay tuned.......

I'm going do some testing on my mini rivercat. I want to point out I've learned something. Just because a prop is faster, does not mean it's the best for the boat (I know you experienced guys know this already!). With the m645, it was faster yes, but the boat did not like it at all. It was all over the place. Hard to control. Just wanted to be to much on top if the water (maybe too much lift?) And waddling from side to side. The other props were much smoother. I must say, the stock prop and the x438 were way more drive able and I could corner it full throttle. I want to continue this thread with my other boats. Mainly just a prop comparison and how each boat feels and likes the prop. Heck, may help someone setting up the same thing. Hopefully I don't lose my gps today because it's getting taped to the top of my mini for testing. I do have a locking tether on it in case it comes off.

Well. Lost my gps. Damn. I got one run in with a stock pro boat 40mm prop. 54 mph on my mini. At least I know with a good prop it'll go over 60. O well. Time to buy another gps. We are out here waiting on my son Go go get some diving Goggles and a light. Yea, I'm desperate.

Each model is a matter of right balance.....good hull, good electronics and the right prop...everything in perfect harmony...and yes a fast prop doesn't mean a driveable model.Gill

No. we when back with a rake but where it is there is a drop off over 10 feet deep and there was a current. Not worth me drowning over a 50 dollar gps lmao! I'm ordering another one and I got fiberglass hatches on the way for my mini and my rivercat. We got it on video, I'm trying to get it from the kid who videos it. I think the nose was running too low. Since last time I angled the prop level and I had move the batts up. Time to angle the prop a tad because when I let off it caught the water and flipped. Stay tuned for this video.....

                    kfyguy,
How many cells were you running in the Impulse 31?

6s. 5000mah, 50c each pack. The 1800 kv motor was all rusted. The bearings are rusted and crunchy. I just took it apart and I ordered ceramic bearings for it.

I've lost two of them things doing the tape on thang, funny how one can never find em even though the water is only 4ft deep.

I prolly would have used Velcro along with some tape.

I used velcro, tape over it and a tether. Broke the tape and broke the tether.
