New CF Daytona Build.. I really need experience boaters input on this one!!!

What's up fellas.....I'm including this video here because it pertains to "Questions and Answers" for my newly built Daytona. I just dropped her in the water yesterday and am looking for some direction in regards to getting her set up and dialed in. I'm running her on 6S, 1650KV motor, with a Swordfish 220 Pro+ Esc. I went out and tried a 42mm prop and she didn't like it only putting out 48mph on the gps with temps around 117 - 120 ( I knew prop might be a little small but the the temp here in VA was 105 degrees yesterday so I wanted to play it safe), then I put an X448 prop on it and only picked up 5mph to 53mph with temps around 130 on motor/ esc. I know this boat "when dialed in" can reach speeds of 70+ so I am asking for any input you may have that can assist so I am including the video so you can see/hear what she ran like and provide that. This video was from when I had the 42mm prop on it. Any input on the sound or attitude of the boat would be awesome in helping me learn what exactly i'm looking and listening for when setting up these boats. I have been boating for a short amount and time and just recently built a Twin that runs really nice but this single build is off to a slow start. Thanks fellas!

Man it sounds like your not getting full throttle. Did you calibrate the esc? That would explain the high temps. For comparison sake here my cheetah, same motor, same amount of cells with a much better 447/3 prop.....

    now here's an m645 prop....alot slower

Also, I remember you saying last night that it was running wet. If so, that will slow it down and cause high temps. Too much drag. That's how my shocker was. I found out later that day the prop was angled down a tad. Leveled it out....much faster and lower temps. The prop definitely isn't what you need either but you already know that. Where are your batteries? Move them back a little. Get that nose up. What's the timing at? Hopefully you can pull a log off the esc. If not, try turning your throttle travel up to the highest it'll go (150%?) Just throwing some ideas out there to you. Or you can take that damn swordfish esc out and throw a t180 in it just to see.

The motor sounds pretty wound out, as would be expected with the small prop. A couple photos of the transom showing the height of the strut would help. The speed is not too far off for that motor Kv and prop. A few question:

      - exactly what motor are you using.
      - exactly what packs?
      - what timing advance are you using?
      - where is the CG from the sponson transoms?
      - are the props sharpened?

        - I'm using Castle 1717 1650KV motor
        - Turnigy Nano Tech Packs 3s 65C 5000mah (Total 6s )
        - Timing is stock setting on the Swordfish
        - CG is 13.5 inches from the back.... boat is 38 inch long (not including rudder assembly ) putting me at the 35% range for CG with the current set up and battery placement
        - Props are sharpened and balanced ( 42mm was plastic, X448 was Octura brass/metal )

As of last night here is where the strut was positioned on the last run

Here's another pick of the Strut and it's current positioning in comparison to Transom/Sponsons.

Wait....the prop used in the video above is plastic? Lmao and you got almost 50mph out of it? That's pretty impressive. I was thinking it was a stainless one like pro boat sends with the geico and impulse 31

No Trav...... lmao..... I have not used this prop, I put it on for the pic to help with strut angle view....... We all know plastic props aren't worth a doo doo. This is one of those Octura Plastic Carbon props used to test out different size props before spending all the money on ones that may or may not work....

Now let's get back to the R & D portion of this program..... Forget about the prop you see in the pic....... LOL

The running surface of the boat is actually 32.6 inches. This is the dimension you should use for balancing the boat. Balance from the sponson transoms.

@ Ray R ........ So your saying CG should be measured with the 830mm length that is in the diagram, not the 940mm to the transom? I was always told find the CG using the total surface of boat hull from front to back because that is weight as well. Can you provide some further insight on your feedback so I can get a full understanding of your input/ feedback.

Anyone else have feedback on this suggestion?

The tail of a cat behind the transoms has little effect, don't use it in the calculation. Assuming you use a real prop, move the CG back to about 11" and try it again. Next, raise the strut 1/8" keeping it flat and run again. You can probably go higher but test. If you want to hit 70 you will need more prop, an x648 with the boat properly trimmed should get you close.

@ Fluid....... So my plan is to run the X448 (Diameter 48mm 1.90" , Pitch 67.2mm 2.660" ) again but adjust the CG back to 11in instead of 13.5. After I run it that way and see what difference it makes, I will adjust the strut up 1/8th inch until hull rides smooth/stable. Once I do that I will try a prop with more pitch working my way up to the X648. What do you think? I'm trying to test and be safe in the process not to damage anything.

and what are your thoughts on the Swordfish 220Pro + with data logging in comparison to Sea King/ Turnigy 180?

X447/3 works well with that motor. You'll get what you want out the boat with it.

I think you have a good plan. I just don't know about the SF, too many conflicting reports.
