    Awesome hatch retention idea....

I've been looking for the perfect (affordable) solution. I've always wanted to try riv-nuts in the hatch rail but cost was too high to try something and it not work. I was in harbor freight the other day (I know I know) and I came across a threaded insert tool kit (another name for riv-nut tool) and it was like 17 bucks with an assortment of threaded inserts. So I bought it. Decided to try it out tonight. I'm impressed! I think this is my new solution to screwing my thumb screws into. Very strong attachment to carbon. It's basically a threaded pop rivit (without the pop lol) for those not familiar. I just ordered a couple packs of 8-32 inserts as my kit only came with 10. I'll be posting a daytona build very shortly with these included in the hatch retention. Tell me what you think....

I decided to do some more testing. Was afraid it might pull through the cf. I put a washer on tbe backside and man....that worked like a champ and it's plenty strong.

Nice Kevin, I've seen a few versions of these. I've been using skateboard rail hardware like these since junior high. Sk8 rail hardware has 2 ferrules on them that cut grooves as their pushed into place, keeping them from spinning & locking them in place.

                Who is kevin?

The thing about these is they go in the opposite way than the ones you posted in that link. So it sits flush. I just got an impulse 31 yesterday and I deleted the Crappy factory hatch lock and front pin and put this setup in it. Check it out....

I'm liking the way your thinking on these hatch locks but life can be much simpler

Buy some Lexan from the Depo and glass it in ...

I smashed the barbs in flat with a vise and then puttied them in...

How would that be simpler? All I do is drill the holes and pop rivet the insert in. Your way you have to smash the barbs, cut the lexan, cut a slot (which in my mind weakens the hull right there) and then epoxy something in. Not sure how yours is simpler....lol. nice idea you have there too don't get me wrong. I was trying to find a super simple and reliable method that doesn't cost much to do. I've found it. I'll be applying this on every build from here on out.
