    tp5850 in a fantasm

I'm contemplating what motor on my next build. I'm looking at building a fantasm single. (I know, I know). I have been looking at two motors, a castle 2028 and a tp power 5850 6 pole 1150kv motor. I could run this on 10s and have some decent rpm. The castle motor is a 780kv motor, less rpm more tq. I'm wanting about 80mph and about 2-3 minute runs max. No record breaking, just something to play with. I can't help but think how fast my shocker is on 8s, 1250kv with a smaller, less powerful neu 1527 and it's close in size at 37" vs 41"....nice a huge difference between the two. So what motor would you choose? The tp is also 10oz lighter and a tad shorter. I wanna do something different. That's how I am. Ideas? Go!

I have a tp 820kv for the fountain and after seeing a lot of other builds since the purchase of it I will be buying another tp motor in the 1000-1100kv area so I can really wake it up if I want to. If your going single I would go with the slightly higher kv. What do I know though?

Have you considered a Neu 2230 or Lehner 3080? TP also makes another motor that is larger than the 5850.

Subscribed! I like the Fantasm hull as well, and really like the idea of a single for simplicity and ease of maintenance.

I haven't. I just bought a hull from Chris (he ordered a 44" cat from you recently). I'm thinking about going twins now. I dunno. I like a single for simplicity but to run one of those big Ole motors....I don't have many choices on esc (well that I'm aware of, maybe someone can point me in the right direction on that). I already have two matching castle 1515 motors. I could get two t180 esc's and call it a day. But....I do like to be different. I'm open to any and all suggestions as all I've bought is the hull at this point. This build could go either way. I do want about 80mph out of it eventually. Maybe more. But for now if I do twins I'll start with my castle motors. I kinda want to get two of the new model t180 esc's. I like the way they look. Suggestions....ideas?

Thanks! That's actually making my choice much easier. I'll have a grand in a controller and a single motor and not go as fast with a twin......for alot less money at that. Little more work....but probably worth it. I guess it's time for me to build my first twin.....

I have the 40063 ESCs in my 185, they're a bit large for the Fantasm. The 25063 would fit though, as well as a Swordfish 300HV.

Think he said he is going with twins....two 25063s could fit with a little creativity.

Well if I do a single I was considering a swordfish 300. Wasn't really wanting to spend 750 bucks on an esc.....not yet anyway. I have lots of bills, three kids, a large house note and not alot of extra money lol. Am I saying this will be a budget build? Nah....but not an unlimited budget build either. I also do want to take months collecting parts....I want this thing in the water before summer is over (actually way before summer is over lol). As much as I'd like an mgm esc, I just can't swing it right now. I really did want to build a big single tho. There still will be many more chances for me to build a twin. Still deciding....

Boy I'm wishy washy about this ain't I? Lol

I've had decent luck with the 56mm leopards, I've got a 5698 910kv in my 1/8 scale Hydro with a 240SF ESC and I just built that 48" Mono with a 56110 950kv and a 300SF both running on 10s. The Hydro has been 73mph so far @18.4lbs. RTR and I still have a lot left in it. I haven't GPSed the Mono yet I'm guessing it's going to end up about 70mph it's exactly 21lbs. RTR both of these boats were designed as gas boats originally. I'm sure that Fantasm won't be that heavy RTR.

If your looking for real speed twins is the way to go. You don't want your rivercat blowing by it! I have seen some of the fantasm build videos doing high 80's, low 90's and they don't look like there breaking a sweat. Lots of room to work.... Well, I think you know what my opinion is. Somebody may even have the motor mount and stinger drilling templates.

Yea, I'm leaning toward a twin. I'm about to look for two esc's. If I can get a decent deal on them, then I'm buying them today do I can't change my mind again lol

Your making the best decision to get the most out of that hull!

Twins really would be the way to go in that hull, If I wasn't gonna use the ESCs I had for that hull I'd sell them to you but I will sell you the motors I was going to use. I've got a pair of 4474 (44mm x 74mm) Psyclone hobbies 1650kv 4pole, I had Dave @ HRC custom make the cans for me I'll take $225.00 for the pair with cans.
