    Proper boat setup

    Hi
I was looking for information on the art if fine tuning a boat. I know a lot has to do with testing as some of the seasoned guys can spend hours just testing and tuning. I guess my question is if you don't have the experience how do you make any changes. My boat is a whip 20 running a UL1 motor and Esc 4S 5000 mah dinogy and grimracer 42x66 prop. In my video I notice the prop sounds like its hopping out of the water. How would you know if that's a issue with balance or strut or even the prop not thinned or sharp enough. Hopefully some of the answers will help us new comers learn what it takes to get the most out of your set up and not just throwing in more power to go faster. This was my data log from the eagle tree.
    Thanks for any input.

    Jack

The setup is not bad. Your speed is very good for the motor and prop, too bad no rpm on the logger. There is some prop hopping which hurts speed and ESC. Three things to try:

    - make certain the strut is dead flat when the boat is resting on a flat table.
    - move the CG back to put more weight on the prop.
    - delift the prop slightly by cupping the tips.

One of the above - or a combination - should cure the hopping.

I would add to what Fuid said a check of your prop....have seen lot of them even balanced with different size blades that lead to low efficiency and to this sympthom.Gill

Thanks for the advice. I do believe the strut is set flat I will check again. Something I should of said was the boat did fly of the water a couple of times and I was running with 2 other boats on the water.
