Dynamite .31 (5.1cc) Gas Engine with CDI - NOT FE, but pretty cool

It's been out for a while, but I think something like this would be a fantastic powerplant for a long-runtime Sport 21/3.5cc sized application. The truck it comes in flat out flies... Electric start, CDI ignition.

The airplane guys also have a few gasoline motors in the .40-.60 nitro size such as the Saito FG-11. It would be nice to see some options for boaters with smaller boats who prefer IC Motors. Especially with the cost of NITRO these days.

          That is cool Darin.

I wonder if this type of motor will become a grenade if they try to run Nitro in it?
There have been some discussions about it on IW. I have no idea, it will be interesting to see where these power plants take them.
          Possible game changer?

I'm not sure, Doug... I wouldn't think to run Nitro in a Gas motor.

I'm thinking that, with the relative simplicity of Gas power systems, something smaller like this would be fantastic for some more manageable sized boats.

Not sure it would work for racing, especially currently, because there would have to be some kind of motor displacement equivalency put into place, which, of course, would turn into a huge pissing match, I'm sure... :)

If I could get my hands on something in the 10cc size, I may setup my older Sport 40 boat with that and see how it all works.

There will always be pissing matches with change. Right now the power isn't there compared to similar sized nitro motors but the same held true for electrics and the weed wacker motors when they first got introduced into the hobby. Nitro is holding on in my district but almost all the racers admit Nitro's days may be numbered. This would be a great alternative for them. Build it and they will come.
