Hydra ICE 240: Current Too High?????

    Hi everyone. Some advice please.

I've been running my P-Sport w/Hydra ICE 240. The current is averaging around 200amps w/spikes in the 250 range (see below). Is this reason for concern? -or- can I prop up just a tad (1mm diameter larger)?? Please keep in mind that I am only running 4S, so the power output is still rather low compared to a 6S or 8S setup running the same current. Thanks!

Well that is slightly higher than I run mine (170-180)normally but not higher than I have run it. I run 1717 in 35" DF on 6s with anything from 445-646. X450 ran it up high as did one of my ABC props. Been 2years living in there.

It isn't the amps which matter, it is the controller temperature which determines if you can prop up or not. If the logged temp is getting much over 200*F over the length of time you actually run, then I'd think twice before propping up. I have run mine up to near 250*F but that is really 'way too high. I've been lucky I guess......

if you want more speed, why not go to 5s (if your hull can fit it and your motor kv isnt too high...you never stated what the kv was) and maybe step down a tad on the prop. Youll likely get less amps pulled, less heat and a little higher speed. just an idea. I also find that smaller props handle a little better and this may be an advantage to you since your running a hydro im sure your not just making speed passes. just my .02

WHoops. missed that. my bad. carry on.......was just trying to help but at the moment im not familiar with racing classes and any other hulls than fighter cat cats. Just on power setups (to an extent) and I have a good idea on how things work.

Thanks guys. I will plot the temp next time, but if I recall it was approaching 200 after running 6 laps. I'm hoping to do more testing tomorrow morning.

What Hull, motor, prop and battery's are you running in your "P" Sport??

Mine runs pretty good, Temps for motor,ESC, & battery's are each around 100 to 110F after 6 laps.

That's a great video Larry. Thanks. What motor and prop are you running? A couple guys in our club are also running P Sport whips.

                        That is a great build.
                        That is one big motor.

                        I run a 1515 - 2200kv with a 440/3 prop
I found on my 21 wip that the larger props caused a lot of prop walk at high speed.
I got the control back on mine (see video above) by using a 1/4" deeper turn fin, without a decrease in speed, and my lap time went down by being able to run tighter.

I know! Believe it or not, this is the recommended set-up by Castle for a 'heavy' P Sport hydro. My boat is quite a bit bigger than the whip 20, and considerably heavier, which in my opinion is more stable for P-Sport speeds.

I am heading out to the pond tomorrow. Hopefully to try an M646 and M448. I'm logging everything including temp this time. She runs a smooth 60mph w/M447 which is decent, but there are several guys running 63+mph in that class (like yourself).

Sounds about right, Mike. My whip20 runs 52mph. The real good guys are running nearer to 55mph.
