    jae21fe battery tray?

has anyone built the jae21fe and if they have , how did ya hold the battery in place? I bought some velcro straps from OSE so I would like to use those to hold it down. But will require a tray on the floor of the hull. Any ideas? Thanks !!!!

You can build a little platform out of some thin ply or if you want to get fancy, purchase a premade battery tray like the ones OSE sells. I believe the premade ones come with standoff's or you can make your own with some small shims of wood epoxied in place. For my JAE, I like to keep it simple (and keep the weight down) I just have a 2" wide piece of Velcro stuck to the floor of the tub and bottom of my pack. There is not too much room for the battery to move around and that's a good thing. I also have a lip epoxied to the front of the lid to keep the cowl from popping off in a severe tumble. In four years racing, everything has stayed in place (knock on wood).

I used cyno to glue in 2mm balsa standoffs topped with 1.5mm neoprene foam for grip, and velcro ties epoxied to the tub sides, as some of the batteries I have run were too close to our 560g weight limit to add any velcro to. If I did not have a battery weight limit I would have put a strip of velcro on the battery and the bottom of the boat, and saved myself a few grams.
