On a big mono (48") Offset rudder set up. Where should the rudder be in relation to the stinger? In front of it? Behind it? Even with it? I seem to remember one time reading that the leading edge of the rudder should line up with the trailing edge of the prop? I can't find it now.
Rudder length in relation to stinger length?

It dependents on the hull but generally most big gas mono's use a six inch standoff when using the Speedmaster hardware. But some do use a four inch standoff. I've used both and they both worked fine for me. The longer standoff can give you a bit more stability in the turns.Mike Chirillo

I run even with the drive dog in my P-Mono but on my 45" gas boat the rudder is two inches behind the drive dog. Both turn awesome. If you are worried about the rudders effect on the thrust cone, you also need to take into consideration how far to offset the rudder from the keel. On most 45+ inch boats, it's 2.5 inches. On my P-mono it's less than 1-3/4". I'm not telling you one way is better than the other, but if you want the best performance out of your boat, one size does not fit all. Let people know what hull you are running and someone out there has probably done the experimenting for you. If not here than on the gas forums. Have fun!Mike Chirillo
