    Threaded prop, remove dog-ears sleeve?

So, after running my first boat for the first time, and losing the Octura x438 that I had on it (see my video in my post here: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...118#post567118 ), I want to try some of the Graupner CF props I have. However, if you look at the picture below, the thread is too long, I'm wondering what to do in terms of the dog ears (is that what they are called?!). Should I remove them and find a longer sleeve or I can run it like that?

Just get the props that are made for that type of shaft, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches in the long run. They do make CF props for the normal drive style, look on OSE's site.

It's not that I'm set on CF props---I just want to use those for finding out best size. Just wondering if the prop is like in the pic, is that a problem (for just a few runs).

I thought about removing the drive dog, but then what would hold the thrust washer in place?!

The too long threads is a good thing, you will need to fit a jam nut in front of the prop or you will lose that one too.

Graupner did make 3/16 props too, but not down to this size they started at 40mm, and while Graupners do have less load than the equivalent size Octuras do so the 2317.40 is probably a similar load to the X438, it hub size is rather large for its diameter which is not ideal.

Should not be a problem! Leave the drive dog on. If you are bothered by the exposed section, see if you can cover it by slipping over a piece of silicone fuel tubing, although it would be tricky to cut the notch to mate with the drive dog "key" .
Too many boats, not enough time...

I found and ordered another 3/16 prop of CNC alum, size 35mm. In the meantime, if I get a chance to go to a lake, I'll give it a try with a fuel tube and the Grapuner's, thanks for the suggestion.
