    Question about ESCs

Is the ESC what my controller communicates with? And, if so, if I have a Mini Rio and I get a Thunderbird 54 ESC off ebay, how do I make sure it will work with my current radio... or am I missing something? Any help is greatly appreciated!

your controller communicates with your receiver. unless the mini rio is different for whatever reason.

      Jon,

The Mini-Rio is different. The stock ESC and Receiver are combined together in one unit. So if you buy a different ESC, you will also need to install another receiver. You can still use the Transmitter if you install another 27mhz AM receiver with the correct crystal to match your radio. The crystals from the Mini Rio ESC/Receiver are built in and not removeable to my knowledge, but I have never taken the wrapper off of mine.
