    Driveline Question

When using teflon inside the stuffing tube, is the flex supposed to spin inside the teflon or the teflon and flex spin inside the stuffing tube?

When I stretch the teflon tube small enough to fit inside the stuffing tube, the flex cable gets very tight inside the teflon. Too tight to spin inside the teflon. This would be fine if the teflon spun with the flex inside the stuffing tube but not so if the flex was supposed to spin inside the teflon.

First answer is the flex is supposed to be spinning inside of the Teflon. Some have even gone to the trouble of using a small dab of CA to hold the Teflon to the brass tubing.

It sounds like one of 2 things is happening. #1 the bend in your brass tubing is too aggressive. Which leads to binding of the flex cable? Is your bend a nice smooth "S" bend or a smooth unidirectional curve? A picture would be good here. #2 the sizes of your brass tubing and Teflon are the wrong size for the diameter of flex that you’re using. What size flex are you using?

Yep, sounds like your Liner and stuffing tube are the wrong size for the cable.

I have an SV27 and am using the OSE .150 upgrade. I needed to stretch the teflon to get it to fit into the stuffing tube but then it seems to bind on the flex cable. I'll do a little more work with it and see if I leave it overnight in place before I put the flex in there if it relaxs inside the stuffing tube sufficently to allow the flex cable to run smoothly.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I thought as much otherwise why would you lube the flex.

I sand it before stretching it. That changes the DIA to both ID and OD.

Or do not use any teflon at all.

I previously didn't use any teflon, just good quality grease but as this cable was supplied by Steven from OSE with teflon I thought I'd give it a go.

If your SV is still stock, it should all ready have a Teflon tube in it.
