Flex shaft shortening

Hi guy's, im about to start work fitting out my new project boat the Genesis. Ive got all the good bits for it and its time to get into it. Fitting the upgraded 3/16 flex shaft is the first thing on my list. Now before I say this I do have a few other rc boats 2 stroke and electric and have been playing around with them for a few years now. That said , Im a bit worried about cutting my flex shaft. I dont want it to stuff it up. I was going to cut it with my dremel ,will it fray? Is there a special technic I should use ? I havnt been able to find anything on the subject, any advice would be much appreciated

A dremel with a metal cutoff wheel will do fine. It's what I use.

Then camfer the end with a belt sander, or similar tool. Solder the end to finish it off is optional.

I do use the Dremal with a cut off wheel. It doesn't fray, just go easy. I then bevel the cut part by running it on that same cutoff wheel lightly while spinning the shaft in my fingers. This helps it slip into the collet later.

I do the same as srislash, works great for me.
when installing it in the stub shaft I use green loctite, stud locker and never had a problem with it comming off, some silver solder it but that green stuff works great and fast.

DITTO, except... I haven't found a 3/16-3/16 stubby

My flex shaft is .150 and the stub shaft is 3/16, I get them as a kit, shaft and stub shaft at my lho by octura I belive, check out Graves hobby in orlando florida, these folks don't give a hoot about boats but the do carry a bunch of octura stuff, props, flex shafts, drive dogs, colletts ect.ect.

Thanks for the info ya'll, I thought it was a fairly strait forward operation. Just wanted to be shore. And green loctite as apposed to solder ,I have read some other articles on here were they have used loctite. Will try that one. I got my 3/16 kit from RC boat bits here in Australia srislash. They have good gear but when I contacted them (by phone) for advice the young fella was rude and not interested! Put me off strait away.
If I have any more questions Ill know were to go now.
