Hello,
I am running a single Rev-Tech 5000mah 40c 2s, a single Venom 5000mah 40c 3s, or a single 3850mah 35c 4s thunder power pack. I am not running the dual battery harness. I am running a single battery on 5.5mm gold bullet connectors.
5.5mm bullets are better than trx or deans connectors., far easier to solder with a helping hands & butane pencil torch from harbor freight ($10). with the power system you're currently running Traxxas connectors will be just fine. stay away from the generic Traxxas connectors on ebay, they're absolute junk. I've had one too many boats lose battery connection and go dead out in the water because of the generic traxxas cnnectors.
Your choice of cells isn't bad for a start. Don't go any lower discharge rating than 30c, 40c is preferred w/ the highest mah you can get. if your batteries can't provide the correct amount of voltage that the power system is capable of handling you could possibly find yourself blowing up cheap lipos.
Idk how good the lvc in the evx 2 works. I had an evx 2 w/ 4s power in my Traxxas summit (2sx2) , but I didn't trust it. I ran a liposhield, it doesn't get any better.
we don't run our boat batteries clear into the low voltage cutoff, that's just bad juju. we time or runs for 4 minutes then we bring the boats and check everything and then make a decision on whether or not to send it back out again.....
While your looking at chargers, look at the imax b6 , they're also a relabeled turnigy ...Last edited by gsbuickman; 05-06-2014, 02:38 AM.Comment

Thanks Alex,
I was wondering if anyone else was going to chime in. Here are the 000mah 2s 40c search results from the USA HK warehouse.

I have run some of the $14 B grade cells w/o issue. I never ran them into the lvc, I always balance charged them & I storage charged them b4 I put them away. since you're not planning on running your boat often or hard as long as you take care of them they should do just fine for you.
Here is the imax charger. Its 50 watts & 5A so it'll reliably balance 5500mah cells .

Ok so i ordered 2 of these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html and that charger.
Is 7.4v enough to run one battery or do i need to run them as a dual to make up my 14.8v? For running one battery I just need to make a Y harness from the ESC to the battery correct?Comment

Hiya,
Is your evx already a dual battery (series), a and dual motor setup ?, It should be. If it is, go ahead and run both cells. The reason I have my villain on a single setup, is because the HPI gt-550 motors put out some monster torque. Considerably more than the titan 550's and it just overpowers this hull. Its just more manageable on 2s & 3s with my setup. Don't forget a liposhield lvc just in case, it might just save your arse....Comment

okay so got the 2 2s lipos and the imax charger after talking to hobby king and a power supply. Got my water cooling stuff today. How are you getting the silicone watercooling head on the EVX-2? I've already pulled off the original but I can not get the new one on. Any tips?Comment

Hello, welcome to OSE,
The Villain is a great mono to start with. Check out my recent Villain IV build.

Here's a test run on 2s (7.4volt) power. It already performs way better than a stock villain dreamed of ....

Finally got The villain x wet for a good video on 4s
The first video us short because the batteries in the camera died, right before the dude on the segway told me rc boats aren't allowed in the park. Its not posted so I don't give a chit. I filmed a second video after changing batteries anyway..,.,

Well the villian shocked me. Had way more power an torque then i thought it was going to have. Corners well and swaps ends nicely. Worked great till it blew up a drive gear. My miss geico burned up its second motor in middle of lake and I didnt want to swim so sent the villian out as a one prop boat slowly putted out there any retrieved the cat. New favorite. Just need to get a new drive gear. Any idea why it might of shredded and blew off the metal retainer? Too hot? too much mesh?Comment
