    Question about building 36" Cat

Hi, I am beginning a build on a R2 hobbies 36" cat and had a few questions. I want to build a twin power boat. Can someone advise what would be better twin power or single. Also Could someone advise me on a recommended setup. I was thinking about going with the one in this genesis in the link below.

Thank you for the help in advance.

As usual, we need to know what you want the boat to do...sport running, high speed passes expected speed, runtime, cost, reliability. Otherwise we can't make a meaningful recommendation.

I would like to be able to do more then run in a strait line like drive circles, screw around a little bit but would like to be able to open it up and let loose. Maybe 60 - 70mph top speed would be ok. Cost wise I Don't Want to dump a ton of money into thats why i like the setup in that boat i posted as its not to costly but I do understand it does cost to get performance. I would like decent run times not a 2 min boat only. I'm not really sure how everything equates so any input in the situation would be helpful. I am open to suggestions as I would like it to be fast but would still like to have fun with it.

      Thanks.

I fear your expectations may be too high for current technology, 70mph may or may not be possible for that boat without modifications, but even if it is possible it will need significant strengthening to stay together on its first blowover at that speed, doing such speed even for 2 minutes is a pretty big ask, doing it for significantly longer just isn't going to happen in my opinion. 60mph may be feasible, as there are offshore race boats of that length doing it, but the R2 hull is a lot narrower than offshore race boats so has a lot less room for electrics in it.
Have a look into P Offshore race setups, as offshores race for 4 minutes. 36" boats would normally be 6s but I doubt you would fit a Q offshore setup in it due to its narrowness.

Your not going to be doing any fast circles with that hull.

ok dont know the hull but a Neu 1527/1Y on 6s 10,000 mah with a 452 prop will get u in the 60's and 4+ minute runtimes if it's set up properly, thats the caveat, SET UP PROPERLY!!!!

and by the way I answered with a single setup because you can do this with all high end components for the same price as cheap twin components and you'll have a better working boat!!!

get an aeromarine sprintcat .40 36" hull, It's just about the best handling cat out there!!! It's not the best looking boat but you can't beat it for performance!!!

I appreciate all the responses. I already have the hull as I kinda of ended up with ir by chance. So I would like to build it. If single is the better way to go that's fine with me. I would like to break the 50-60 mph barrier atleast in strait aways. I understand if I just gun it the whole time my times won't be to good. But if I'm flying around having fun with it I would like to get decent run times. The best setup with a mid range price will be fine for me. I am asking cause I have never built and setup a boat from sctrach so any advise is appreciated. Thank you.

Ok a neu 1527/1Y is about $280 a seaking 180 speedo is $125 2 6s 5000mah packs from dinogy or mojo racing shoud be about 300 and asst hardware, strut, rudder, flex shaft, coupler drive dog, motor mount and prop $150-200. this setup would get you where you want to be, 4+ minute runtimes in the high 50's to low 60's and would be on the upper range of price. you could certainly save 100+ bucks and buy a cheaper motor and 100-150 and get cheaper batteries, but this setup works and is tried tested and proven, by myself and many others. as long as the hull can handle it and it's set up correctly!

Thanks for the response. I have a few questions, what kv is the motor? And as you said this is a high end setup, what would you be able to recommend a mid range option as well? Thanks.

kv is 1250, I don't recommend anything other than the best, mostly because I don't run anything other than neu motors and high end cells and thats what I know. I wouldn't recommend anything I'm not 100% sure of, I recommended the seaking180 only because the Castle controllers are not available. I have used the seaking 180's and like them a lot.

I built a 34" cheetah with a 1717 1650kv motor from a traxxas x01, fightercat esc, x447/3 prop on 6s and it runs 62mph. The hull you have is probably more conducive for speed than the cheetah as it was made to turn rather than straight line speed. Check out my build thread as it may help you.
