Most important thing to remember in all this, we all regardless of what kind of setups we "personally" prefer, need to respect and support each others likes. As my brother Tony referred to the difference in SAW compared to Zoom Zoom. I openly admit to doing both and yes the $$$ signs do go up with the rpm's. I think we just need to agree to dis-agree and stay a tight knit group. Zoom-Zoom ....DJ

I do zoom zoom myself. I named my thread "time for me to build my first saw boat" because it seemed to be the "in" thing in this group with having/building a really fast boat....so I was trying to fit in. I apologize for using it as I didn't know it was so sacred. :)32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Unlike a lot of members here that have clubs they can go to and race with there friends a lot of us are on our own with maybe one or two other people in the area to run with. Days I boat by myself running around in circles can get boring fast, sure tweaking a boat to handle better and squeeze a little more speed out of it is good. I am building a fast cat (not saw cat) to get the adrenaline going and see how far the boat and it's components can be pushed. If I had a club within a 100miles of me and was racing against others building a boat to go as fast as possible likely wouldn't be in the cards. But I must make do and get the most enjoyment I can out of boating so here I am. It's not to impress anybody but myself. I do what it takes to keep my interest levels up. Most of the fun is spent building the boat, with luck in time perhaps I will meet a few people and we can start our own spec racing club and then have some real competitive fun. That would be awesome, until then I have fun any way I can. It's great you have avenues to race multiple boats competitively. I don't see how I will be putting any less into building a fast boat to seeing what it can do, moving on to build better faster boats. can one person on his own be less dedicated than someone who goes to the the time trials to run his boat. Doing it on your own takes a high level of dedication, you dont have other boats to look at and drivers to talk to. The sacrifices are are no different unless you talking about your pride, you can have that. People seem to forget that joining a club isn't an option for everybody, I do what makes me happy to enjoy the sport
I don't understand how my level of dedication is different than any other though it seems you have to join a club so your sacrifices are noticed by others to make I count. Whatever. I am happy with what I am doing for the time being. When I a ready I may drive the 600 miles to run a boat and then my immense this and sacrifice that can finally be real.Comment

Help me out here ; I'm having trouble finding the part where anyone claimed that that you have to join a club so your sacrifices are noticed by others to make I (sic) count.

At some point the Diagnostic Manual of Psychiatric Illnesses may categorize SAW racers as incurable nuts.
From a post following the 2013 NAMBA SAWS, some insight :
"...A full reporting of what SAWS are really all about needs to show what leads up to a successful run. At the risk of ruffling the feathers of those who use the term SAW to describe their gofaster sport rigs, I'm going to "soapbox" for a minute and offer that an actual SAW competition boat begins it's odyssey immediately after the exhaustion wears off from the LAST race. What follows is months of performing the ancient Oriental Ritual of Too-Ning. Then the TRAVEL. Darin from Washington State. Brian from Oregon. Jay from Texas. Tyler from way up the California Coast. Marko from Germany and Manuel from Austria. Days before the event the locals prep the course. Before sunup on race day the crew sets up the course installing the lights and timing table. Kim comes and sets up the gourmet kitchen. The competitors arrive in the pre-dawn darkness, unload, set up their pits(grunt). Timing begins. Then the frustrating mid day wait until the wind/waves subside. BORING. Then more racing until the bewitching hour at dark. Then tear it all down(GRUNT), load up(OUCH), go home & collapse in bed (I have a 70 mile round trip). Then the SAME for TWO more days. Equipment failures, toasted electronics, boats lost to Davy Jones, finding the center island at full chat and destroying good boats, and oh the blowovers ! A true SAW devotee is certifiably crazy but we keep coming back. I do primarily for the camaraderie and cooking."

Let's get back on track and make sure no one gets bent out of shape. I wanted this to be a productive thread with useful info for whoever to read. It started out that way but has veered a little off track due to personal feelings and whatnot. I don't want to clutter up the thread with low key arguements....there's no need for it. It you feel like you must express yourself about your dislikes and and your beliefs, please feel free to start your own thread. I wanted this to stay on track with information and proof of why we should or should not run a little higher rpm than normal. Carry on :)32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Sacred ? Not really. Crazy ? ProbablyAt some point the Diagnostic Manual of Psychiatric Illnesses may categorize SAW racers as incurable nuts.

Tony, If I didn't know better I'd think my Grandfather moved to California, (you even look like him) I'd really like to meet you someday. Keep up the posts and don't ever think that you "don't have the right or the inclination to continue to give your side of the story" we would all suffer if that were true!Comment

And that's why I am a certified Zoom-Zoom guy. I love this hobby but I don't have the time right now in my life to be so DEDICATED! I go to these Saw events and witness and learn. This is a hobby but within this hobby there are the "professionals" and the "amateurs" like myself. (No offense to the ZOOM -ZOOM Guys) I think if I have to be that dedicated then for me PERSONALLY the enjoyment factor will go down. ( due to lack of time to do a really thorough job)
Also to echo what Tony said about the race days: I have been his pit man and I know how tiring it is, I have been guilty of occupying his clinic for the comfort of his reclining chairswithout paying my fees, I sat there most of the time watching and marveling those racers but pondering why I don't have the drive/motivation to go further and faster.
Maybe I really should register and seek help at your clinic.Too many boats, not enough time...Comment

I know, I know. Just have too much time on my hands, getting way too crabby with an idle bench waiting for parts and ridiculously over-prepping a boat for a race coming up Sunday.
