The most important thing is to just be honest. If you built a boat that looks cool, that's great. However show some video on how the boat runs. The boat should sell itself. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, provided that they are presented with the facts so it meets their expectations.
how much?

Ive posted a bunch of vids on how it runs. It flios around if I try to turn too sharp. I havent had a chance to finish figuring it out but I think its a combination of the rudder moving too far and too much weight up front (having the batteries too far forward) I plan on working that out before selling it. It is fast in a straight line however. Everything runs nice and cool and the boat goes nice an straight. It does turn well however, just if you turn it too sharp itll dig in on the nose and flip around. Its just a matter of getting everything set right which I havent run it enough to do it.The most important thing is to just be honest. If you built a boat that looks cool, that's great. Hmm..., I better watch what I say because I have a suspicion that I belong to the 95% of people.
I couldn't agree more with Keith's advice and talk about pro builder; he really has the respect and admiration. Yes, you need to ask youself what's worth to you. It takes a man with integrity to ask people on the open forum about this question. I respect you for that and I have been more of a buyer than seller here. When I was selling I posted detailed pictures and offered as much explaination as possible because I feel it is only fair to think/remember my own thoughts/feelings when I am about to buy. With that in mind and a similar concept like Keith's, it wasn't hard for me to come to a reasonable asking price. Of course in my case they were RTR boats, there is that level of personal attachment and feeling of pride not present as in your case.
Good luck with your decision!

Asking what you have into for parts is very reasonable for how new the boat is. Saying it's worth 50% of that is seriously off the mark. The person who made the remark should price one out from a builder and see just how much a boat tailored to there taste really costs. I don't see to many builders selling there used boats for 50% of total part cost. You did a great job on the boat, better than some of the builder stuff I have seen. Your goals have changed from oval racing type hulls to saw boats. It's the obvious one to sell out of your group. Good luck with the sale!Comment

i don't think 50% is that far off. maybe a little low for a boat with very low use, but at most 70%.
obviously you haven't sold many boats fella? maybe you have and get almost full price?
in any event, if i were to make a serious offer, it would be in the 5-600 range for what you have. most likely you will sell it for a price you feel is a bit low, and the buyer will feel like the price is a bit steep. its money….. a good compromise is when both parties are mutually dissatisfied lol…just kidding but you get it.There's a hole at the center of earth where the rest of the world sinks but i stand still...Comment

Upgrades don't add that much value. Esp amoung racers who want stock stuff. Honestly a rtr with upgrades used is worth no more to me than a brand new one out of the box.
I would never pay 5-600 for a rtr with upgrades. That's why people who upgrade ul's with motor esc prop don't get 500 bux for them. At least I've never seen it.
But again, it depends on demand and what it's worth to the seller and buyer.

Thanks Keith, you flatter me.
You could well be right, it might be seriously off the mark in either direction, there are no photos of the boat in its current condition posted here, nor a description of its condition, or the use it has had, so I said what I thought it would be worth in good condition. If it is in as new condition with little use it will be worth more to some, and if it is battle scared it will be worth a lot less.
I respect Keith, but even one of his boats brand new out of his shop would be worth less than the sum of its parts to me, unless he built it to my style for me (which I am sure he is more than capable of doing), and in which case it would be worth considerably more. I have no intention of wasting a builders time pricing out a build I have no intention of commissioning, but I know well enough what is involved in the process.
KFXguy, if you do decide to sell, stick to the $600 it is worth to you for a good while, if you are willing to wait for someone with the same tastes as you that doesn't like/have time/facility/skills to build, they will be happy paying what it is worth to you.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment

Everybody is talking about RTR W/upgrades, The boat KFXguy is talking about selling is a Custom built CF Cheetah with almost 0 run time on it (maybe 5 or 6 packs) not a RTR W/upgrades. That being said I think it's worth the $600 he's thinking about asking for it. You deffinetly couldn't build it your self for that.Comment

Why don't you read thru and you'll understand where the talk about rtr's came in. its a natural progression of typical conversations to go in different directions. this time it was for comparisons sake. we know what boat he's talking about…. for the love of godEverybody is talking about RTR W/upgrades, The boat KFXguy is talking about selling is a Custom built CF Cheetah with almost 0 run time on it (maybe 5 or 6 packs) not a RTR W/upgrades. I did read through, that's why I was wondering where RTRs came from. It doesn't even pertain to what he originally asked............ I brought it up, I was clarifying what I was selling, I too know what he is selling. It is an admirable thing that he is open to an item he is selling, not hiding anything, I already expressed my personal view on that. I am sorry if I steered the thread in the wrong direction, but I think we all agree that the seller has to feel comfortable with the asking price. I think people who are looking to buy a boat that is NOT RTR have a pretty good sense of what the price should be, and this almost ensures both parties more or less satisfied in the end or the F/S section wouldn't have lasted this long.
