Zonda or Genesis

I want to build a twin FE motor Cat. What should I use for a hull to start with Zonda or Genesis and why?

I built both boats in online shopping carts and the Zonda is about $200 more than the Genesis when all said and done. I'm leaning towards the Zonda but I'm wondering if it is worth the extra $$. If I build the Genesis it will be from the HK hull (TFL) and if I do the Zonda it will be from the Kentec hull (TFL) with hard ware. The only problem I have with the Kentec Zonda is: The description of hard ware is vague, and the pictures show different parts. ie.. The stingers are different in each of the photons in the store web site for Kentec. What parts will come with it?

Does one handle better than the other?
Will the Zonda survive a full speed blow over better than the Genesis? Or will the CF just look good but have Rx issue without any strength or performance over the Genesis?

genesis said and done should be way cheaper to get running. Both look like they handle well, Guess depends on budget, how fast. Both need reinforced if your shooting past 65-70mph.

Search the forums for Fantasm, same hull as the Zonda. It's a better all around boat for speed and turning. The Genesis (also known as the Daytona) is a narrow scale hull and turning at speed can be more problematic, but fast in the straights. I've built a few Twin Fantasms, worth the extra cash.

Joel, I have yet to see the Zonda hull head on, the pictures on Kintec somehow shows the CF hull's line less than crisp. When I look at the Daytona ( TFL Genesis painted ones) hull, I see crisp lines line those on MHZ or HRP hulls ( I know it is not the same), still, I wonder it is just optical illusion or it's the nature of CF material construction. I am also trying to decide between these two and look is an important factor as I am aware the narrower hull has limited ability to turn at higher speed.

I have a fantasm twin that I bought the hull from keith bradley for less than $200. It is alot wider and has more room inside to work with. I have 2 4074 tacon motors in mine and it is alot of fun, but was not cheap to build. I also have a river cat 32 from fighter cat with 1 4074 tacon motor in it. It has been gps'ed at 67.4 on 6s and as soon as I get the fantasm dialed in im thinking it will run low 80's. If I was building a genesis, or daytona hull I would set it up with a single 4082 as there is not alot of room to work with and it would be a real pita to install dual stingers with top mount supports on that boat. I have the genesis and really like it. The paintjob that is done on the boat is very nice and an incredible deal for the money. If I was doing a twin the zonda/fantasm is the choice I would make hands down. All boats require reinforcing to go fast. From a couple of build threads it is to be noted the carbon layup in the transom area of the fantasm is paper thin. All these boats need work to go fast, just because it's carbon fiber or Carbon/kevlar doesn't meam the are ready to go out of the box. All are good value for the money but it still comes down to you get what you pay for. Good luck with your choice and build

I like the look of the fantasm much better. You may think they look the same but they dont. The fantasm/zonda is the exact same hull as a rivercat. The daytona/genesis is on its own and doesnt have much detail. So far in my collection I haveva daytona, rivercat and mini zonda (I call mini rivercat) look closely in this pic. Daytona to the left. Rivercat in the middle. Mini zonda on the right. Notice the mini and tge river cat are almost identical. The transom is a tad different. Everything ekse the same. Daytona is completely different.

More important then the looks, the hull design between the two are very different. The Daytona (Genesis) has a narrow dihedral hull design. Low speed handling can be an issue as well as spin outs and barrel rolls. But when setup properly can run very fast going straight. The Fantasm has a flat bottom hull. Turning and straight line speed is great as long as the water is calm.

So if everything was identical except for the hull. What would be faster straight line side by side? 37" Daytona or 41" Fantasm? Both in FG, the Fantasm hull is easily double the cost. It would be interesting to see them race straight line and oval.

The daytona would get to the first corner of the oval and keep on going. Turning is not good at all.

If it were me... id choose a fantasm anyday over daytona. Next choice would be a rivercat.

Is the Zonda the same as the Fantasm with just different name?

I mostly fly large scale Rc planes, 3D and IMAC.
I have a ProBoat Mystic 29 with a leopard 4074 2200Kv and HK 180 amp ESC. I have an itch to build a nicer, bigger, faster and better all around Catamaran.
