maiden voyage = destruction need help

So after reading about miss gieco battery trays ripping off I epoxied mine with 2 part gorilla glue and took my miss geico out yesterday for its first run and it hit a wave got airborne and went nose first into the water and looks to of hit the ground underwater so when I got it back to shore the seam on the front sponson is cracked and the other side is scrapped up and both battery trays ripped out. What's the best way to fix this? And what materials do I need

Posting a picture of your boat doesn't help him... You can use some CA, or epoxy, and fill it in and sand it down, then paint over it if you like.

Quick and easy way is to use the epoxy. I've used West Systems G/flex on a similar repair. You can also use it to secure your battery trays. (Silicone also works for mounting the trays).

First picture doesn't look bad at all, it happened to me although was on the outside--portside.
Anyway, since the seam is narrow and when you press them back I am sure it aligns , my take will be to use medium CA, put just enough on the seam and "massage" the hull so CA will go in and hold or tape the hull while making sure the alignment is still good. Do not use thin /quick CA as you won't have time. The idea is to have minimal visible repair outside. Once the CA is cured you can think of a way beefing up the inside. I poured 2-part expanding form (http://kintecracing.com/) under the deck there since there really was no room to layer FG or CF, but now that I have seen pictures of what other people did, may be my assumption was wrong. But the outside fix worked for me.
Your other tip was not badly scuffed, if you fix it, paint both tips orange as all OFFSHORE boats have that trade mark, look at some pictures and you know what I mean.
As for your battery trays, sand, sand and clean with acetone before epoxing them back again. I will also replace the stock flimsy ply-wood trays with some quality FG or CF trays found here @ OSE. West System is great as said, but any 30 min. epoxy from your LHS will do.

P.S. if you tape the seam , make sure you have something that won't stick to the CA BETWEEN the tape and the sponson. GLAD CLING WRAP works.
Too many boats, not enough time...

Sounds like all good advice this weekend when I did this boat I also had put the 200mm cf tray in my revolt and I like the way it looks I may order 2 of those instead of stock. Is there a place that sells the replacement paint?

I posted the pic because he needs to rip that garbage out of the interior because its going to detach anyway. As far as the body work...yea good luck finding that color.

                  How About This Stuff

See attached - Walmart has those kits for bout $17~18 - it has everything you need.

I got one to reinforce my IM31 before her maiden voyage.

Just my 2C - hope it helps.

                    Suggestion

                    Suggestion...
Update your post with a link to the excellent thread you did about your MG rebuild - there's a lotta useful info there, I remember it - that would be much more helpful than just a pic of the completed project.

                    Just saying...

BTW: found those mini rollers... http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece...set-95066.html and http://www.harborfreight.com/5-piece...set-38432.html

Local dollar store has 3" versions on a small plastic frame - 2/for a buck. Cheapo's, but good enough for the task at hand.

Here's some pics of my son's Miss Geico after he ran up on some rocks-- shredded the sponsons. I use West Coast Marine Epoxy putty, which has the consistency of Bondo, but is waterproof and super strong. I filled the damage, then used the same stuff to blueprint while I was at it.

On your boat, you can try the repair 2 ways

                      Easiest:
-Try to sand inside the seam, as the stock glue leaves a waxy residue and new glue does not like to stick to it
-Sand down the paint around the seam
-Use the epoxy putty to fill the seam, then build up a bit on the outside
                      -Tape it down
-After dries, sand it to shape

                      Strongest
-Instead of epoxy putty, use regular epoxy in the seam, then add a layer of fiberglass cloth along the seam

Do you use the fiber glass cloth on the inside or outside I'm not sure how you would do it on the inside

In your case it would have to be on the outside since you cant get your hands up into the sponson area. So sand down a bit further to make depth for the cloth patch so that when you sand out the cloth when dry you are more or less flush with the paint.

Then after that you could pour some thinned epoxy inside the boat to get a coat into the inside seam.

I actually have a way worse repair to do as the entire front split along the seam after a bad collision and this is how I plan to fix it.

So here is what I ended up doing. I got some medium CA glue so I could glue the crack shut while I held it quickly then used a 2 part epoxy with a couple good coats and touched it up with some paint it turned out ok the paint is still wet. also reepoxied my battery trays down they should be good this time

you could also try to pre soak some fiberglass cloth and use a stick to poke it down into the tip form the inside.
