Flex cable to stuffing tube clearance....I'm confused

Ok. I've read and read, still cannot find the correct answer.. If I have a .187 flex, what size brass tube should I use? I've read 9/32, 1/4 and 7/32. All conflicting advice. I was told 1/4 when building my rivercat. I feel there's too much play and the cable will whip at high rpm. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I'm over thinking it. Maybe I just really want everything as right on my boats as it can be. I took the liberty of putting a flex cable in each tube and took pics of them side by side. The top is a 7/32 tube. Middle is 1/4 and bottom is 9/32.....im thinking I need to put the 7/32 in.....

Yes, 7/32 feels the best but it won't work if there is any curve, correct answer: 1/4 w/o liner. 9/32 with liner.
Too many boats, not enough time...

Thanks. Curiosity has me thinking tho..... If it does have a curve and you use 7/32.....what will happen? Just wondering

I accidently did just that the other day , you feel the binding ( mind you, the tube was bent perfectly w/o kinks) , and I suppose friction not withstanding, heat will develop and failure shall ensue.

I agree with the others if your using .187 flex.... stuffing tube should be 1/4" w/o Teflon and 9/32 w/Teflon

              Later,

If you go to OSE parts then drive hardware & click flex cables, part way down the page with brass tubing theirs all the relevant sizes you need. Either for using a liner or no liner.
