Can I run it or should I wait?

I dry tested my rivercat last night. Driveline sounds and feels good except at really high rpm you can feel the collet vibrate. I have an map collet on order but it's not going to make it here by the weekend. Would I be ok running it on 6s or should I stick to 4s this weekend? (2200kv castle motor) I may try to balance the collet I have before running it just in case.

How do you know it's the collet vibrating? High rpm on the bench can cause a lot of bad vibes.

I guess I'm taking an educated guess lol.... No really it looks like to me that at the collet I can see it and feel it. On the prop side it's smooth as glass. I'm going to throw the collet on my balancer tonight and see if it's out. I know bench testing it at high rpm Prolly isn't a good idea but I'd still rather it be smooth.

I recommend getting the system balanced, but I will also tell you that standard 3/16" flexes (where the shaft and the flex are both 3/16") typically have balance issues.

I ordered one last week from rocket city..... Playing the waiting game. I balanced one of my couplers tonight. It was really out of balance by alot which doesn't surprise me. I was a pain in the Butt to balance but it was probably worth it. I'll test it tomorrow...... Spending time with my kid now....

I bought three of the nice heavy duty flex cables from kintec. No idea how to balance one of those lol

Sometimes it's just the drive shaft hitting the stuffing tube. It happens when there is no water or drag on the boat.

Test the collet by disconnecting the cable and run the collet by itself. Trying to balance a collet only works if it is tightened to the exact same position by clamping a short piece of cable in the collet. The MBP collets are very very good BTW.

Balance the cable? Under load it assumes a spiral shape totally dependent on rpm and axial loading. Just check for straightness. Prop balance is important but not as critical as some believe. If it is close then it is fully eclipsed by the Huge vibration caused by each prop blade hitting the water each revolution. Minor prop imbalance disappears next to this force. You'd be surprised at how out of balance the props on some 100 plus mph record holder's props are....I've checked a few.

Very good idea! I did just that. It's the collet. It vibrates horribly. You gave me an idea. You said I couldn't balance the collet unless I put a cable in it. Well I balanced the two piece separately and no matter how I turn the nut now it stays in balance. Its unbelievably smoother now. Thanks

Take your time. Use a file on the collet and make "flats" where material needs to be removed. On the nut use a 1/8 drill bit and take very little at a time. I Could kd feel the difference
