took my Villain X out for a shakedown / maiden run today

Today was the first chance I had to get my villain x in the water since I built her last fall

If you didn't catch my build thread; she's running bearing supported drives & outdrives, counterotating x447's, watercooled twin HPI GT-550 mills, Jr z4800 servo, Astroflight 212d ESC and 3850mah 30c 4s thunderpower cells on 5.5mm connectors.

For an initial shakedown run, she didn't do too bad. I ran 2 packs thru her w/o any real issues other than dropping the props all the way down to get the nose down more. My airtronics m11 worked great with the spekky module in her.

I was suprised though. For some reason she didnt run as fast as my old villain did on the same build, being pushed by 19t speed gems arconites on 3s .
I intentionally went with the 14v Johnson (hpi) 550's over the 14v traxxas motors that most people run from the new villain & e maxx because they're supposed to have more torque and a faster top end .

I am guessing speeds were about 30 mph on the factory 28t/14t 4mm stainless drives. The funny thing is, I dont get any more speed out of a 40c 5s Venom pack than I do the 30c 4s Thunderpower cells ?.....

While I can't help you with your questions, may I compliment you with your boat ( I like the original Villain's deck and rails ) and the beautiful location.
Too many boats, not enough time...

        Thanks T

Here's the build thread I did on it,

        http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...per&highlight=

This is a nice Lil' neighborhood fishing pond that parks & rec and fish & game put in settlers park. Its a bit small; too small for my mean machine or hydro's, but its great for smaller or slower boats and makes a good test an' tune area 5 min. from home.

As you can see, the shore perimeter is shallow and rocky & most areas are worse than this spot. I need to get in there and clear some rocks & make a nice lil' boat launch area, cause I hate bouncing props & hulls of rocks .

I am going to guess too much prop is why no change in speed. Remember a brushed motor really feels a load. Way more than brushless.

That was my first thought Shawn, but the 447's are the "Hot" props for Villain builds. The last one I had went like stink on doo doo, however I am on to something here......

I think my forward/reverse are switched somehow. I went into the settings in my Airtronics M11 radio, and reversed the throttle servo setting. Now I have no forward but 3x the prop speed I had yesterday, but if I reverse the recievers throttle plug I get nothing. I have reading to do. I think it has something to do with an epa or expo setting

Alright guys, I got my slow prop speed issue figured out. For some reason the epa setting for the throttle side of this SR3000 Rx, was set at 53% so I only had partial forward throttle. I jacked it up to 140% & now I have full throttle + a Lil' ......
