.187 flex to 3/16 stub assembly

I had extra .187 flex so I ordered a couple 3/16 stubs counter bored for .150 to try and make my own flex shaft. I was told to take the outside winding off the .187 cable so it would fit in the stub shaft. I was able to do that but I'm wondering if I was supposed to get stubs counter bored for .130 because after you take a winding off the .187 it seems too loose for the .150 bored stub shaft.

Also any tips on soldering these up would be appreciated.

Re soldering this method of shaft you need to braze, if you use soft or electrical type solder the joint where the .187" part of the flex butts to the stub will crack the solder. If you look at any commercially made flex that is made this way where the flex is the same o/d as the stub their nearly all brazed.

Yes I was planning on getting a couple silver solder sticks from the depot. My main concern is the size of the counter bore on the stub shaft.
