    Bouyies - what to use

Hope this is the right forum for this... Does anyone know what to use for making your own bouyies for a track? Something nice easy and cheap. Or if they are cheap enough where to buy this kind of stuff. We have about 6 boats on our lake and thought it might be fun to rip around a set track on weekends.

The PSFEMBC club uses three pool-noodles (shortened, of course) inside of a gortex fabric case. Really saves the boats!

        You can see them here:

Those look great... Does your club just make up the goretex bags themselves?

7" crab pot floats are easy breezy way to go too. Shipping costs more than the crab floats though.

Until you hit one at speed...

The PSMBC (D8 Nitro/Gas/FE club) uses 1/2 round Styrofoam floats, but when you hit them, things get torn up. PSFEMBC used to use the crab-pot style ones as well, but boats would really get torn.

With the 3-Pool-noodle style shown in the picture above, you barely get any damage at all. Impact is almost fully absorbed by the buoy.

They really are nice to race around.

we only use pool noodle singles but the gas club uses the foam half floats...and if u hit a noodle nothing bad happens ( I have had a sponson stuck in one before but no damage) if u hit a foan half float all hell breaks lose in the boat and the foam,,,,,

I've hit pool noodles and crab floats. Used to use just 5" pool noodles but they don't actually make a NAMBA legal course. Not sure about 3 strapped together.

I'd have to check if the 3 make up large enough buoys... Never thought of that. One doesn't work. Kind of hard to see and not very stable. The 3 together makes a nice platform, and the buoy covers make them very durable. Easy to store too....

This is basically what we use the two different weights allow the buoy to rise & fall with the water level if you are going to leave them in the water for weeks or months at a time. Ours are in the water all year round.

That last one is a neat idea too... But we have to take ours out every time because it's more of a lake than a pond. Besides we are all just sport boaters and don't belong to any organization or club. Although there is almost enough of us to warrent a small club

Order a half dozen of these. Tie a rope and brick to it and you're in business. The smaller balls won't hurt your boat. I've seen the bigger balls that were cut in half stop a boat dead in it's tracks.
