rx question

i know this is a newb question but i am one so here goes.

with my hitec tx do i have to use brand specific rx's or just same freq ones? if i was to get an rx with more the 3 channels is that ok to use in a boat or not? i have just been wondering these things?

there is a long drawn out answer to this but, it boils down to; the rx must be compatible with the tx(not ness the same brand). I've run 3ch rx's with 2ch tx's(I put a piece of tape over the unused slots. hth

so how do i know if the two are compatible before i buy another rx?

I generally walk into my lhs and say; 'I need a rx that will work w/ a brand x tx'

that sucks. my lhs is over an hour away. is there any rx's that you know that are compatible with the aggressor srx 3ch?
