I've dabbled with several types of straps but, always come back to Velcro brand: STRAPS
These are just what I have used and selection is limited in Canada compared to you in USA. I cut them to length as needed. Look around and see what might be best for you.

What is a velcro strape? Lol

I use traxxas spartan straps. They are cheap and good quality. I actually ordered 8 of them today for like 11 bucks shipped.

I tried those and hate them. They get pulled out of the slot almost every time I unstrap. The spartan ones have a buckle that keeps it from pulling through.

To each his own. I build all my own boats so the slots they go into are smaller than the width of the strap and are very hard to slip out or move. They can hold down 6S2P without a problem.

I build my own boats too. Along with vacuum bag my own carbon fiber. Then mill the slots in my milling machine. Sounds like if I made the slots smaller like your talking about I'd be wanting to punch myself in the face if the strap slipped out and I had to fight with it to go back in. The way mine is now the straps go in easy, but wont accidently slip out. Plus its much easier to tighten the strap with the buckle. I don't like fighting with those velcro brand straps like you posted. I have a couple packs of them because I thought they were going to be a great alternative to the correct thing to use. Well they are just sitting in a drawer not getting used now. But hey, like you said, to each their own! :)
