max amps verses min amps on esc

Got a question -- if the max amps of a motor is 186 amps at full power,, can i use a 220 amp constant 300 amps surge esc ??

There is really no such thing as max amps on a motor. That depends on the load and the packs - put too big a prop on a motor with good packs and you can draw way over 250 amps with most non-RTR motors. What is the application, motor and voltage? A 220 amp controller is plenty for most applications if the setup is reasonable. But unreasonable is just a prop change away....

Yes, but be aware that the quoted max amps of a motor will be the maximum that motor can continuously without overheating. The load dictates the amps that it actually pulls, not the number written on the box. If you run a prop that is much too small it may only pull 10Amps, and a prop that is much too big may pull 500Amps for a while before the motor overheats and dies.

thanks for the input, with a 4082 1800 kv, on 5s- 4500mah 45-90c, with a x447 in a 33 inch titan, everything should stay cool with swordfish 220/300 amp esc

That should work fine as long as there is adequate cooling and you don't run the packs down too far.
