    Drag Racing

My local club (NAMBA District 13) is looking to incorporate "Drag Racing". I don't think it is going to be exactly a SAW Event, because I believe a SAW Event records times and Top Speeds of a single boat. I don't think these guys will do that.

I don't have the full specifics on How this is going to happen or how long the course is going to be or anything else for that matter. ( I have a message out to my District President and I'm waiting on details.)

I do know it's going to be a 2 boat drag race elimination.

With that Said. What should I build? I was thinking 5s or 6s Hydro maybe even a Shovelnose.

I believe this is happening since we have at least 10 guys with Zonda, Fantasm and Delta twin motor set-ups and all they want to do is Go Straight and Go Fast. All the guys are becoming addicted to it.

I don't like Catamaran Hulls myself, I am more into the V-Hulls and Hydro's Never owned a Rigger.

I was thinking of a Tunnel Hull. I had a Stiletto for a while, The outboard gave me a few headaches, but maybe the Older Nitro Housings are better?

    Open to Suggestions.

I have a few Motors Sitting around

    Neu 1515 1y
Neu 1515 1y (that I have to send to Neu for repairs, Maybe upgrade to a different motor)

    Leo 4074-2150kv
    Leo 4082-1600kv
    Leo 56-92 1340kv

    Tacon 36-60? 4000kv 2-pole

    Ammo 36-56? 1800kv 2-pole
Q: Do you know the difference between Men and Boys...?
A: The price of their toys.

SAW races don't record top speed, only an elapsed time, from which an average speed is determined.
How fast are the boats you're running against? It might be tough to compete against twin cats with a tunnel hull.

Well in full size Drag boat racing, most are Hydros so with that being said a Hydro would be the natural choice. I'm thinkin' that 4082 1600kv on 8s in a about a 24" Hydro would be a screamer, You're talking Drag Racing so high rpm for a short distance would be the hot set up.

You will probably want to have some kind of class structure, otherwise the guy with the biggest pocket will usually win. Either voltage, hull type or both. My club did some drag racing a few years ago, the fastest were always high voltage riggers. I would not choose an OB tunnel, that is the most difficult hull to launch hard....they often end up upside down. A slimmed down sport hydro could also be good, something like the Insane FE-30 or Whiplash.

Even on our Oval Course we run OPEN.

Last Year the Electric Line up was

                Rico 29 4s
                Rico 31 6s
                Titan 29 5s
                Titan 29 4s
                Ms. Geico 6s
                Motley Crew 4s

1 of ea. Not enough Members and Boats to run P and Q individually, surprisingly the wins vary not always is the same boat or guy winning. Although that Rico 31 is tough to beat, one time he ran 8s it was unstoppable until he blew up his Hydra 240

A small over powered Hydro sounds like a good idea. I just found a UL-1 Strut and Rudder that I purchased from a Member here.

Hydro Hulls I've looked at so far.

                  Blaster 28"
                  Miss K 30" (shovelnose)
                  DF Vortex 24"
                  ML GP 26"
                  ML GP 31"
ML Scale 1/10th (not sure of the length on these, but they are Shovelnose)

Sad thing is that they are mostly kits, I don't know if a Kit boat will hold up the possible abuse of Flipping at top speed.
Also of these which could fit a pair of 4s Batts?

I have a 1/10 scale shovel I have been messing around with
The last time I had it out it was fast but it was very easy to catch too much air and over it went
I do not think a shovel would be the boat of choice (maybe that is why the real boats are not built like that any more :) ) for drag racing

That looks pretty cool, It's cheap too, but it's ABS. I cannot see if it comes with the Big @ss Motor

Yeah I was Reading some Drag Forums yesterday and they commented on catching too much air. I am going to build a shovelnose one day just not this time.

Drag racing is not oval racing. You asked for suggestions, so go with the recommendations of folks who have never done it......
