    Choosing Motors

Hey does anyone have any good links on papers or articles on how to choose motors based on set ups or other factors. For some reason I can't get how people choose motors how the H do you figure it out?

It takes experience, much of which is available here on OSE for the asking. You need to know the hull type and how you will use it, how much you can spend, and how important reliability is to you. There is a chart for Neu motors which is a rough guide - emphasis on rough - and it is for Neu motors only.

Ok great it's a good start for me. Was hoping it would be a bit more straight forward but oh well that's the fun of the hobby.

Thanks again everyone I am slowly starting to get it. I can see why everyone says it takes experience. There are so many factors to take into consideration. And little changes can seem to have big effects.

Not to mention that some setups that are on the edge might not last very long at all in a hull that isn't set up properly. Just because somebody with a few years of experience can make it work does NOT mean it is a good setup for somebody who is just getting started.
Early on you are much better off being conservative in you choices, one run with the wrong strut setting can be a very expensive learning experience!
There is a lot to learn about setting up a fast boat, choosing the components is just the first step.
Keep asking questions, the only way a person can learn, non of us started out knowing any more than you do.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Oh I fully expect to burn or blow something up. Seems like it's my best way to learn.
