Thinking about getting a Revolt 30

I have been slowly switching to F/E from Gas. I have purchased a few boats, A GP 400 kit from ML Boatworks, the tunnel I bought on here, and I'm having Tony (Propperchopper) build be a couple. I've been thinking about a Revolt 30 for a mono, not real expensive, something to mess around with, run it on a single 4s pack.... I have started through the Aquacraft thread, and see that I will probably want to upgrade the shaft and get a different prop. Are these boats good, and what else should I think of upgrading? I will be using 5.5 bullets on it, that's a given, I just need to learn what I need to do to solder them.

The Revolt is a great boat for a RTR. It was my first FE. Plenty fast on 4s and darn near bulletproof (after you upgrade the flex) unles you over prop it.

I learned how to tune hardware with that boat. Sounds like you already have plenty of experiance though.

Its great for a nubie to learn on or a fun mono for a more experienced boater.

Same as you...been slowly changing from Gas to electric and I have two Revolt 30s, and me and my son have a blast with them. As said, very near bullet proof - just turn down your steering servo at first cause as said it turns on a dime. I have submarined mine many times ....but it never misses a beat. Very fun boat.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll be placing my order very soon, then picking up the upgrade on the shaft from OSE. How much work does the stock prop need, or should I go with something CNC or from Dasboata? Is there anything I need to know about soldering the 5.5 bullets? I have some Turnigy 5000 mah batts, and I'm probably going to get some Dinogy packs the same size. Are they a good choice? I'm thinking 4-5 minute run times on most of my boats... I want to stay away from LVS - what's the best way to do make sure I do that? All these Newbie questions... UGH! LOL!

You will love the Revolt 30, it was my first FE boat and I absolutely love it. Glad you did the research and found out about the stock flexshaft. Mine broke on run #3 despite greasing/inspecting prior to each run. Thankfully the boat didnt sink, but AQ was great about sending a replacement prop, shaft, drive dog and prop nut (i still wouldn't use the replacement one they send, LOL). The stock prop is usable as-is but definately benefits from sharpening/balancing. Its a good all-around prop to start with and holds very nicely in the turns. I have also tried a CNC 2-blade from OSE (cant remember which one off the top of my head) and an Octura X642 and the boat loved both props. The x642 seems to be the fastest but the CNC holds better in rougher water, it would appear.

The best way to stay off the low voltage cutoff is to time your runs. I'd also recommend the grimracer speed grease for the flexshaft, its great stuff and a $3 tub should last for several seasons. The included instructions are some of the best I've seen in an RTR and is definately worth reading. The Revolt is one of the best values in the RC hobby at the moment, theres almost no way you could build a boat this nice yourself at the same price.

It's a nice boat, but there are choices that might be a better fit seeing as you're jumping into FE with both feet. Not knowing what Tony is building you makes it hard to recommend a specific mono. He has built a few different monos for his clients, so you might want to start with him.

If you do go with the Revolt, I found the m445 to be a great prop for it. The m545 works well too, but you just have to watch your temps more.

Rick I hear you. I actually have an FE30, an Aeromarine MM (both ordered and in progress), and have approached Tony about a skiff as well. I wanted a mono that I could just mess with, have some fun, and maybe pass off to the son once I have decided to move up to another. Tony's builds are top shelf, and I would definitely approach him to build me a mono when 'm ready, if I am not ready to try myself. This is a whole new ball game, (F/E I mean), so I'm staying with the KISS theory. Build a gas boat? No problem... Fast Electric?.... well.... Not quite. I will need help with the GP400 I am sure.
