Hey guys. I run with a guy that uses hardpack lipo's I dont remember what brand but they work nicely. I had to use them last week cause I forgot to bring mine. DOH! Anyway they arent sealed "the case that is" and do get water inside. He drains them out and just throws them on the charger after no more water comes out. They seem very durable and dont seem to be any larger than soft cased packs. I would switch but im too deep into what I have at this point. I would imagine a bit of dielectric grease would keep them xtra safe around the connections. I would suppose as far as swelling you would just get a puff of smoke or a lower voltage reading if they swell, not sure how that would work.

I use a pair of intellect hardpacks in my craft, they are 3800mah 25C and seem to go very well. I am running them in series and drawing about 65-70amps which I would say is pretty on the limit and they are barely warm after about 5 laps.
Judging by the looks of the case, it is pretty well sealed, the only place the water will get in is via the plug sockets however I have been known to be completely wrong before.
The packs themselves come with no lead or balancing plug, they do however supply 2 X 4mm male plugs(banana?) and 1 x 2mm plug for the balancing port, I am waiting on an external balancer so I can make a harness up for it.
The case itself has feet on it that allow for about 1.5mm of airflow underneath the battery itself, I don't think this would be overly beneficial in a boat being that they were designed for cars but a good idea nonetheless.
These haven't been out for that long so they haven't been properly tested however I picked mine up for $65AUD each so aren't complaining at all.

I think ROAR rules require hard cases on lipos for sanctioned races and most local races reequire them as well for the perceived safety advantage of a hard shell in a roll over or pack ejection.

My concern is temp readings with the hard case. Also extended cooling time due to the fact they insulate the cells. I like the idea of being able to replace shrink wrap easely after a dunk with no question marks as to any water being left in the pack also.
