Help me decide my next cat

I need help deciding my next catamaran (size 34"-40"). Currently i own a MC and it is a nice boat, but would like something new and would also like to build my boat this time. Me and my buddies just run the ponds/lakes messing around, so the boat probably wont ever see any real races, it just needs to be a fun boat and would like to speeds into the 50's on 4S. I was also thinking single power plant setup.

I do fiberglass work on full size boats for a living, so i have alot of resin, glass, fillers, 2-part foam, etc. laying around.

I want the cat to have a tale end like a daytona/genesis hull, nice and curved.

    Current boats on my mind:

    -R2 Hobbies RC EP 36" X 10.62" http://www.r2hobbies.com/rc-boats/hu...boat-hull.html

    - Fighter Cat Shocker (FG or Carbon?) 37.4" X 11.22 http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...mart&Itemid=97

    - Delta Force 36" X 11" http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=df-Cat-36

I aslo like the daytona/genesis hull, but i think its to narrow at 9.2" wide. I dont think it would handle turns very well.

    - Any suggestions on hulls?

as a runner the Aeromarine Srintcat.40 is my favorite cat, but I always liked the looks of the H&M M1 supercat 34" and I had one that easily did 60 on 4S with a Lehner 2250, I cant remember which wind, but a NEU 1521/1.5D would make it fly. I actually am building a new one this winter to run in the P-Cat class this coming season.

As a fun running boat the sprint cat would be perfect if you're after something that is more scale looking I suggest a fightercat fantasm. They have flat ride pads in the back so they will be able to take turns pretty good and still go fast. The other boats (daytona/explorer cat) have a dihedral design and will hook in turns especially at lower speeds.

At 41" the Fantasm is far too larger for the OP's desires, 34-36" is probably best for good 4S performance. The Fightercat Shocker has a similar sponson design but the Cheetah is probably a better choice on 4S. Like Mike I really like the SprintCat 60/80 but it loses in the looks department.

Looks are real important in this build. Dont like the looks of the sprintCat, maybe if the cowl was different... and the cheetah has a funny looking rear end.

The reason i say 4s is because i already have 8 - 2s 5800mah Lipos. Could you serise 3 together to make 6S? I dont see why not..

I was thinking mid 30's in length because of weight savings, easier to get in the 50's-mph and longer run time.

Running 6S will pull fewer amps and increase run time over 4S - as long as you keep the speeds in the 50-55 mph range. You can certainly wire three 2S packs in series, and a ~36" boat can carry the weight of 6S just fine. And if you ever want to go faster.......

If you want to run 4s, the River/Apparition cat might be a good choice. If you want to run 6s+ the Fantasm would be a applicable. The Cheetah and Sprintcats will definitely out-corner both of these but the looks are not so scale. I am assuming that you don't like the looks of the Mean Machine either, that would be a 4s capable cat that corners well also.

The DF Explorer probably corners worse than the Daytona/Genesis. The shocker isn't known for cornering abilities either. I have no experience with the R2 cat.

If you can get past the looks of the rear, IMO the Cheetah would be your best choice from info I've gathered (I'm building one now) and if you do boats for a living you should be able to dress up the rear.

River cat has the right looks its just a couple inches shorter then what i was looking for(River cat 840mm, Appartion 800mm?? thought they were the same boat..). cheetah sprintcat and mean machine are to square and blocky like my MC.

So width doesnt matter?? I know little about r/c boats, but i assumed the wider the boat the more stable...I guess i shouldn't assume :).

Anything is possible, but i would have to do more work to that hull then i want to do.

The only thing I can think of that fits within your parameters would be the hydro and marine boats. Take a look at the Freya and the maritimo.

Width does matter, but it is not all that matters. Even though it is too narrow to handle well, it has high deadrise sponsons that work in its favour vs flat ride pad sponsons, so it is not as bad round the corners as it could be.

The H& M boats are beautiful the M1's definitely handle better than the others. Fine design usually has a couple in stock.

I would order straight from H&M, or perhaps ask Steven here if he has the ability to order one for you. That way you are dealing with a trustworthy source and you know you're going to get what you pay for.
