In the size hull you mention a 4065 2000w motor is to small, better suited to the 4082 3500w motor. Even then a 4082 is a bit small for a 40"+ hull.

The can size comes from experience, of which there is a lot on this site. A larger diameter or longer can will have more torque to spin larger props, and enough mass to absorb waste heat without burning up. It's not just about watts. Motor quality matters too, cheap motors don't put out the torque of high-end motors of the same size, plus IME their amp/watt ratings are often inflated. Your budget and expectations will set the motor quality you buy. For a hull between 35"-40" to go ~60 mph a better motor would be a longer 40x92.

not sure what your build skills are like but if you are up for a custom build you cant go wrong with a cheetah. 55-60 mph with ease on 6s, plenty of others building them to get ideas from, I'll even link the same video i did before. If you would prefer to have an rtr i bet propperchoper would be happy to build one up for you. Ive seen his and he did a beautiful job with the inside. the vid speaks for itself and Tony is only running 4s, you could easily achieve similar or faster speeds on 6s and it would keep amps and heat down. Not sure how tight your budget is but i would lean towards a TP motor over a leopard, they are a couple clicks higher on the quality scale IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cl5eb...R4&app=desktop
no personal experience but I'm sure you could swing a more aggressive prop then what tony is running if you opt for 6s powerComment
