Mounting the strut

How essential is it to make sure that the strut is mounted straight up and down and not at a slight angle.

Do you use a leveling tool to get it straight?

I draw lines on the transom to make certain. Measure across the top of the transom and mark the half way point. Draw a line from there to the point of the keel. It is very important to make the strut straight up and down, 1 degree off may be okay, but why not make it perfect?
