Need help with motor, ESC selection

I really hate to hit you guys with another "help me pick my motor" thread but I'm a nubie and don't want to mess this up.

This is my first build, my other boat is a Revolt.

I have a Ariane 2 CF hull coming from TFL on a slow boat from China, literally. There is no organized racing around here (Tallahassee FL) so this will be a sport boat but..... I want to build it close to NAMBA Q-mono just incase I decide to drive 4 hours south and race it. I want a reliable 6s sport mono with the ability to race.

The Ariane 2 is a 36.6 inch mono hull, and I will be running 6s.

I am looking at the Leopard 4082, in 1450kv 4D or the 1600kv 2Y. (Whats the 4D and 2Y?) I am also looking at the T180 ESC and I will run a separate battery for the rx and servo (no BEC). I would get them both from OSE.

I realize there are better quality motors and ESCs but I am not a rich man and a $350 motor is not in the budget at this time of year. I also realize that if I decide to race it I will need a better quality motor, looking for suggestions for that also.

So, will this motor/ESC package work, or am I way off base?

Looking for any and all input/options.

    Thank you for your time,

There are some good threads here on Q motors.I have a 39" DF set up for Q with a 1600kv Castle 1521 1Y. personally I would take the 2Y over the 4D. I have a T-180 in the boat that is working well. Any larger motor and I would need a larger ESC. I know money is important but a 1520 1Y Neu at $250 is so much better than the 4082 or 4092 leopards. Use a cheap ESC or radio but get a good motor. I have a pile of toasted leopards and not one Nue or Castle has failed yet. (knock on wood) Even used there a better buy. Just got another Castle for $100. Not many Q's racing here in FL so glad to see your building one and even thinking of racing. I have run mine in open classes against gas boats and finished well.

      Thanks Mic,

OSE has a 1521 Y1 Neu in 1577kv with a 8mm shaft for $249. Think that will work? Any problems with the 8mmshaft?

      Thank you,

Also I have a 40mm motor mount, clamp style, will that work?

What do I do for a water jacket?

        Thanks again,

        Doug

That 8mm shaft is better as is uses larger bearings and won't flex as easy at high rpm's. On longer motors 1527-1530 more a factor. Not sure about a clamp mount? (photo) OSE has a variety of Jackets and mounts.
