better off going brushless or trying a lipo battery in place of the stock battery. maybe even go up one cell and use a 3s lipo

What kind of cells are you running in the 17" cat now and what do you plan to run in the 24" cat nimh or lipo ?

How hot is the stock setup temps after a 4 minute run at full speed ?

Also why do you want to stay brushed and not just go brushless ?

3s lipo will liven it right up! Playing with props staying close to stock or one larger prop, good times. all my bruwhed boats and trucks use lipos. If you go ,3s get a low voltqge alarm. Very cheap. Greqt runtimes to!

You can purchase a 3s low voltqge alarm. It plugs into charging leads on the lipo battery. The alarm is quite loud and can be heard from a good distance. I always made sure I made a pass close by regularly. It still works great on a brushed cat I have. It was rather slow and going to lipo using the biggest pack I could get in made it fun enough and really long times made me leave it brushed. I wasna't sure how long the boat would would last with the extra strain put on it but 40 plus runs and things are still great. I bought from hobby king, there under $10 and worth there weight in gld!!

Running without a lvc alarm is possible. You can time your run once you notice it slowing down bring it in. perhaps use.2/3 or that time for.future outings. I know that if I didn't have the lvc in mine I wouldn't have so many runs in. Even the lvc alarm isn't foolproof, running without one with one slip up and the battery is garbage. Not sure what other damage could happen. Good luck

Way to much kv for a boat setup,
You want 3000kv or lower and it also depends on what volt cells you want to use in the setup.

Some stuff for you to read and learn from and what it may take to go brushless with these boats.
