    TX with the best range???

I am back to using my Airtronics RDS TX in my RC boat because the FLY SKY and Tactics just do not have enough range. Tactics rx don't have antenna's to get it out of the CF hull and the Fly Sky's antenna is just too darn short.......

Can someone give me an example of a wheel style TX that they use that has great range, I would appreciate it

I thought we have been there before:
    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...opper%2C+Fluid
I witnessed both of these two gentlemen ( Properchopper and Fluid) in action at So Cal Legg Lake for the SAW event and I am here to tell you that their chosen brands of radio ( FlySky and Spektrum DX3R Pro) performed flawlessly! I did see one Airtronics ( surface radio) user momentarily lost signal contact with his boat at one end and performed the famous routine as described in that other thread...

    Here is another informative thread:

Ya, the second post you have has more definitive answers........ I already went thru the first, hardly any help............. I need the 1000 range, I like running SAW and trying to reach the century mark, you cover a lot of distance quickly. Right now it doesn't sound like anything is much better than my Airtronics RDS to justify buying something else.......... I guess I am stuck with stix.....LoL

Various range testing comparisons ive read with car radios for example the Futabas have had better range by quite some distance.

only thing i can figure at this point with radios… is, it depends where you live lol

seems that different people have different experiences. my cheap flysky has outdone some of the more expensive radios is certain places I've run in my general area.

i dunno why, but a friend using a spectrum has serious signal issues at a certain lake we run. i don't have any.

try another brand. you'll find one to work for you eventually lol

I have a tendency to agree with HE here. It does seem to depend where you are. There is a lot of RF noise out there. Who is to say what frequency is being tossed out there locally.
My Spektrum has not given me any issues ANYWHERE on my fav SAW lake.

Don't laugh, but if you have a hill that is a lot higher than the water, your vision of boat and range will increase some. You have a boat 100 yards out is hard to see which direction the bow is facing unless the boat is good size.

This is why my fav lake is my fav. It is an old gravel pit that is now park. A couple steps up a grass embankment and I can see and run the whole lake. ;-)

                  I COULDN'T AGREE MORE.
I posted the above reply only because they have different info. and they showed one thing: that there is no one radio that seems to take the longest range title.
My personal experience so far confirms Heaving Earth's findings. Go figure.

At least 50% of this argument comes down to getting the last 1" worth of antenna out of the boat and clear of the hull and accessories. When you can't get the antenna long enough doesn't matter what brand you have.

Both the Futaba FASST and FHSS have excellent range. You can also purchase longer antenna for the Futaba receivers to get the last 1" of the antenna out of the hull and clear of carbon and steel parts.

I would also add a note that if you are running SAW boats especially ones nearing or exceeding 100mph, the radio is last piece of equipment you want to second guess.

I'm not going to provide an opinion one way or the other as to "which is best" here, it'll just be met with the obvious...

I will say that, if you or anyone else is having "signal issues" with their Spektrum transmitter with a marine symbol on it, running the Marine RX's, then they need to take a close look at their system. Something has to be amiss, broken, or something.

If they are using their Spektrum with an older DSM or DSM-2 SR-series RX in a boat, then the signal issues would be expected.

Getting up above ground level clearly is one way to really increase range that's for-sure!!!! Your also right about different places can yield different results, but overall the vast majority will perform identically no matter where you use them. I am liking the overall success of the Spektrum and the Futaba Fasst TX. I looked up both, am I right in saying most of the Futaba's are Stix? I would like to get back to a wheel.

he has no problem running other ponds. for some odd reason this particular one just has alot of dead spots for him. he came up my way and ran, everything went well.

Futaba has plenty of wheel transmitters. I loved my older 4PK but they offer the 3PM-X, 4PL, 4PS, 3PRKA and 3PL at lower pricing.
