    Design elements

This should be fun and might keep us from bickering for a few days.

We all see things that inspire us. The line on a car or maybe the curve at the transom of the boat. I mean something made me build a hydro with no transom. Don't remember what exactly.

Let's post some pictures of items that we think have that certain I don't know what that catches your eye. Try to tell us what it is about it that made you do a double look at it. Oh and clean images please.

I'll start with some that are intriguing to me at the moment. For some reason I'm keyed in on the lines at the rear end of the boats again.

    oops. No pics

First one. It's the line at the trans. Makes the whole boat look swept back.
    dsc00914.jpg

Second really is tapered right down to the water line. Love that look.

Next is a build by Van Dam. Just plane sexy. It's the curve in the side to the transom. Love that look too.

Mystic with a little different canopy. I like that gauged out canopy

Last one for now. No transom to speak of. Kinda my thing.

I really need to get back up to speed on CAD drawing, and get some SW to use... I used to do this all the time, and I really miss having that option. Especially with people around who can CNC a plug from this type of design...

I've always loved how the sides radius inward at the back of a J-Craft ski boat. The person in the pic still builds them.

          Hydrostream

By far, my favorite lines are the smaller, original Hydrostreams - love the VooDoo, Vixen, Vision, V-King/Viking. The flowing lines and downward pointing noze give it an aggressive look. Sometimes I think it looks a bit like the Concord's nose. I find the shape fairly organic and not too over-engineered. There are boats that drive better from a pure technical point of view, but I'd still prefer this. This wood deck Vector has stuck with me as such a nice customization. Beautiful:

A VooDoo in T750 or T850 race trim and nice, technical, racing livery is also one of my favorites. Not the greatest pic, but these boats race here in Ontario, and I've seen a few in person:

I wonder how directly the J-Craft rear design was influenced by the aluminum FeatherCraft boats, or if at the time it was just a popular design element in general:

Those old feather craft are sweet.

Darin, I have a ton of Autocad horsepower but I've never had to mess with 3d modelling so I never learned it. Only BIM which is a little different that solids. Kind of a bummer. I wonder what Solidworks costs and how hard it is to learn.

Holy crap. SW standard is 4k.

Maybe I should just take the time to learn Autocad 3D.

As a design element, this nose is quite lovely and I'm sure took a lot of work :

Must say, I too will always adore the flowing lines of a Hydrostream. I attached a photo of my dad's Viper taken on the Wisconsin River last August, thats him piloting and yours truly riding shotgun, holding the rub rail. I'm not going to lie that I also really like the boxier, edgier lines of vehicles (like the Fox-body Mustang) and boats built in the 1980's. Thats a picture of my new (to me) 1988 Checkmate Starflite the day I picked her up last September, and a photo of another Starflite (not mine, but identical) in the water.

I think the square lines are why I like that Skater. The Aquacraft has a certain Skater quality to it too.

Anybody remember the Magnums? I had a friend who's dad was a throttle man on Magnum when we were kids. So we were in the pits for every race. So cool. Those boats were designed for 60 mph and they raced them at 90+. Terrifying back breakers on the Great Lakes.

Very cool Darin. The rear window of a 63 split window on that silver boat.
