Not so tough to get 200 hp in a 10" diameter motor casing! Too bad they no longer cater to the hobby trade - but there's a LOT more money in military and industrial applications.
PS - it's AVEOX Steven.... :) .

The were so villanized by the brushed motor companies!!! "They're not powerful enough, they aren't as smooth to drive, they can't beat a good brushed motor"!!!!! LMFAO, think how long they took to make them legal in RC car racing!!! Mostly because how much revenue Trinity stood to lose not selling any brushes or springs anynore!!!!
I bought a used 1817 2Y from Kelly Brooks in '06 or '07. Raced it in S Offshore at boat camp in Ohio. Won the class, but the motor let a wire go after the final heat when I was bringing the boat to shore. Threw it away. Then, soon after learned that Neu would have re-wound it. Upset over that one.

Brian may have actually wound that one in the first place...

I had one of those too Dave. Ran it on a gear driven. We ran it on 26 cells too and called it T offshore. In a 33" hull no less.
Weren't those 14 series motors 4 pole? Aveox motors had a certain sound to them that was killer. Same thing with the Plett motors. They just sound special.
I remember them well. I wound most of the 1409-1412-1415 1 and 1.5 turn competition stators between 1998 and 2002. Still great motors with loads of torque but the modern designs will match or beat output with better efficiency.
I think I still have one or two in a drawer someplace.

Brian what has changed to make the newer motors better?
Stator geometry, rotor geometry. Window size and shape as well as material distribution in the stator stack. Magnet shape and type to coincide with the wind type for the rotor.
Not so much a radical redesign as a refinement.

Not that I will get any useful data out of that, since its way above my head. But thanks for the answer!!
I had an Aveox motor with an 'Astro flight??' speed controller in my first brushless set-up. I think I had $600 bucks into it!! ABS plastic hydro hull. I remember the yellow Sanyo cells starting to melt through it. Fun stuff!
