    Let's talk big riggers....

One of the gentlemen in my club gave me a good looking 60/80 Road Runner Clone this past summer and told me I can have it as long as I convert it to FE. Who was I to argue. I sent a few people on this board PM's asking for power suggestions but I just want to get some more input before I get elbow deep in this project. I'd like to know what you guys are running in a rigger this size. She is just under 39 inches and was a good running nitro boat. Light and with a low profile. From the info I gathered so far I was thinking 1527 1Y on 7s or 8S. I was going to go with 1P on Thunderpower 6600's and a Castle Ice 240 controller. Am I in the ball park? Can I go down in pack size? Would 5000 mah on 8S be enough for heat racing?? It the RPM on this motor too high to run a prop appropriate for the this sized rigger? Any input appreciated.

I think the Motor choice is perfect. 5000mah would be close. I run a 9s rigger with a 2215 on 9s 6600mah and pull out about 4500mah. 78mph. This is a big heavy rigger. Yours should be smaller, lighter and faster.

Thanks Howard. I'll stick with the 6600's. Any idea what prop to start out with? 37K no load is allot of RPM's for a heat racer. I'm thinking of starting out with something 50mm'ish? Maybe a ABC2014?

        2×6s 3700 mah packs. Series for 12s
First test 64 mph out of it with a 445 prop. Went to a bigger prop broke flex , Just got it already for testing again

hey chilli go with a 1530/1Y on 8s 6600s and a 460 prop to start then a 462. thats what I ran in Mi, I had problems w/ my boat but the combo was ballistic fast and very efficient, (only 3800mah for 7 laps) I was running a Custom one off 39" SGX rigger. my rear sponsons tore off the boat during the first heat causing handling issues so I retired the boat after that but you can ask howard my boat was fast, howards boat runs great too. I used the 1527/1Y in this boat before but the 1530 really woke it up, it was the fastest it ever ran.

This is one I am in the process of building. Nearly finished just doing some float tests in the pool.

                Great posts guys. Thanks.

Andrew, that thing looks like a monster. What do you have in her??

Mike, I picked up a 1527 1Y cheap and want see how the boat handles first but will no doubt keep the 1530 idea in mind. I want to make sure I get the CG right. Right now it looks like I will have two 4S 6600's. One pack will be mounted side by side with a Ice 240 where the motor would normally go. Then the second pack will go forward between the boom tubes and the motor will go just aft of the packs. CG should be toward the rear of the turn fin. I'll post some pics in a few days.

It has 2 x 1527 .5y motors in it running on 6s each. We will see how she goes

chilli on 8s you will probably start w a 445 646 prop, maybe go up to a 450??? you will be turning 37K rpm unloaded, I usually run that motor on 6s 27K rpm

I was kind of surprised that I got recommendations for the 1Y on 8S as 37K sounds a little high for a heat racer on a big motor. I was figuring on starting around 45mm with that set up but was wondering if a prop that size might be a little small for a rigger in that class. That's why I was considering running on 7S. That would get the RPM's around the same area as your 1530 and keep the prop at what I'm guessing is a little more appropriate size for a 40 inch boat. Have you tried any ABC props on your rigger?

I have tried a couple of the abc's, but the way my riggers are they are quite front heavy and the prop lift on the abc's caused the front to plow and they are hard to get on plane, they seem to like the X series and the prather props allthough a 1657 with some extra pitch also works great on one of my big riggers.

                          So with a 1527 1y on 8S. Should I go Castle Ice 240 or HV200??

Several of us have run the ICE240s on 8S in SAW applications without issues. Admittedly I have not been as aggressive on 8S as I have been on 6S, nothing over 250 amps continuous. Of course I can't predict what may happen to others who are less carefull.......
