You mean you had no receiver, I see, I misunderstood! Anyway, depending on your luck, you really may not be able to return/refund those NiMh batteries, some stores state no return/refund on batteries simply because batteries can be misused or abused. In my opinion you should at least be able to exchange for equal value for other items. If you want to use lipos now, it is paramount that you get yourself a Lipo charger! Don't go the cheap way either, so do some research and see what they carry, this is an investment! And you will likely have multiple packs to charge at the same time before going to the lake, so getting two chargers are not excessive. Unless they carry dual or quad charger, but that might be too pricy.
Also for boat use you don't want hard case packs like those for RC cars/trucks, we prefer soft packs that are commonly used for helis or planes. If you have no choice, as someone said earlier, do not get the ones where you need to PLUG IN for the wires on the hard case. Get the direct wired ones.
    best of Luck!

That's messed up if your LHS won't even try to work with you....even a partial return credit or discount on the correct batteries after they sold you the wrong part. With online competition these days, our local brick-and-mortar stays in business because of great customer service and repeat customers.

I agree with those above in that the NIMH batteries are wrong. But sounds like you may also have a problem if the 2 LIPO's didn't work for you. Could be motor or speed controller (ESC).

Do you notice a "spark" when you plug in your battery pack? This would be a normal indication that the capacitors on the ESC are good. In my past experience when my caps failed, ESC will still work just not at full throttle.

I'm financially challenged when it comes to batteries, I buy my battery packs from hobbyking.com, USA Warehouse. I have had great luck with them sport running.
All other RC boat specific parts I try to buy from OSE first...GREAT service here!

The Mystic29 is a GREAT boat, quick and fun to drive!
            This is NOT a toy?!?
