I am trying to decide between an AquaCraft Motely Crew and Lucas Oil catamarans. The specs seem to be almost identical. Can anyone help me decide which one is best for racing and best quality? Thanks

Same hull and electronics, slightly different hardware, water pickup in the rudder no sponson pickup.
Much, much better looking boat, I have a Motley and have always though the graphics looks like something a 13 year old guy dreamed up in the 80's. In other words I think my motley looks pretty stupid! Being repainted with an Amsoil theme like the Teague racing Skater. If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?Comment

I know this is an old post, but just in case someone is comparing these two hulls, here is my 2 cents on it...
I had both boats, the Lucas Oil is more attractive, and the same upgraded hardware as the Revolt 30.
It should be noted that both boats are capable of 50mph essentially out of the box with just a prop upgrade. Though the stock flexshafts will fail almost immediately, make sure to upgrade that as well.
However, from experience, it seems that the hull in the Motley Crew was a bit more robust. I've seen a few Motley Crews that had high speed flips with only some minor stress cracks from it. However, I've seen a couple of Lucas Oil hulls that suffered more damage from the same kind of flip, including my own, which split at the seem on the left side almost all the way from end to end!
Feeling both hulls, the fiberglass on the Lucas Oil seems weaker. I know that Grim Racer himself has stated the glassing is actually thicker, but it doesn't seem to be the case. If you can, examine the hulls of each boat and decide for yourself.Comment

Thanks for the reply. I already installed a larger drive shaft. You mentioned a prop upgrade. What prop do you recommend? I am currently using a M442 prop. I like the performance but looking to increase it without creating too much heat. Thanks again for your help. KornyComment

Using either the Grim Racer 42x55 or the Octura X642 resulted in faster speeds and no heat issues. My Lucas will come out of the water after 4 minutes at 50mph with 115F motor temps and 115 esc temps on the Octura X642.
Its also a really easy prop to sharpen and balance.Comment
